Disney Already Knows Who to Blame for Its Next Massive Flop
PJ Media ^ | 08/17/2023 | Stephen Green

The live-action, woke-AF remake of “Snow White” looks like it’s going to be Disney’s next big-budget flop — and it also looks like the struggling studio already has someone primed to take the fall.

To give you an idea of how insane Hollywood budgets are, even a blockbuster success can lose money. The new Indiana Jones drove this lifelong, diehard fan away — and I wasn’t the only one. “Indiana Jones and the Diaper of Dysentery” needed to earn nearly ONE BILLION DOLLARS before showing a profit (as the Critical Drinker explained last month) but after seven weeks is still south of $400 million. For a franchise that was built on shooting fast and shooting cheap, Disney’s Lucasfilm division went unjustifiably nuts with Indy’s budget.

Even crazier, according to Variety, Tom Cruise’s new Mission: Impossible might lose money, too, despite selling millions more tickets. “After falling short of expectations,” Variety reported, Indy and Mission: Impossible “could lose nearly $100 million in their theatrical runs, according to sources familiar with the financials of similar productions.”

Of the two, Mission: Impossible could return some profit — it could go into the black somewhere north of $600 million — but nothing like Paramount hoped for based on its budget and Cruise’s star power.

“Snow White,” due out next spring, won’t cost $300 million to make and market (I don’t think), but if the early buzz is anything to go by, Disney has yet another stinker on its hands.

But if someone could be a fall guy… someone too young and inexperienced to speak in public without a script… someone like “Snow White” star Rachel Zegler. Tongues were set wagging, and not in a good way, when Zegler was cast in the role.

“Indiana Jones and the Diaper of Dysentery”

I really like that, but maybe it should be “Indiana Jones and the Diaper of Dementia” instead. What's Harrison Ford, something like 96 now?

Pretty girl, but isn’t Snow White supposed to have blue eyes?

The original fairy tale never mentioned Snow White’s eyes. It says: She has “Lips Red as Blood, Hair Black as Ebony, Skin White as Snow” based on the wish her mother made.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Literally becomes:
Leatherette Brown and the “One Dwarf and Six Painfully Diverse Magical Creatures Dressed in Garb Cast-Off from the Greater Des Moines Renaissance Faire.”
thanks Stephen Green (The Vodka Pundit).

I will say it. Hollywood is full of scumbag, sexual deviant trash, so accounting tricks for BS tax purposes is nothing to them.

I remember laughing about the eastern european and chinese folks that only had political propaganda shoved down their throats by the swtate owned and run media. No viable entertainment without some political lessoning thrown in to make it completely unentertaining.

Capitalism is soooo awesome... We PAY FOR the lectures by our betters on how stupid we are. Maybe we have gotten educated enough to not pay for the propaganda, but I doubt that.

My 40-year-old son told me that he wants to watch Barbie with me.

Tell him to first go see it with his wife, and then to get back to you if it's worth it.

Regards,

There is already a rumor that Disney is going to “Batgirl” it - make sure it never appears either on the screen or any streaming service.

I’d watch Barbie just to look at Margot Robbie, :)

The original Brothers Grimm story Snow White was first published in the early 1800s and long ago entered into the public domain, so Disney was free to copy it to create their 1937 version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Disney's version is a derivative work, which is still copyright protected. So, any other studio can copy Grimm's Snow White but cannot copy Disney's Snow White. For example, the original Grimms story had seven dwarfs, but the Disney movie first named them. So, any studio could make a movie about Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs but would have to give them new names.

Considering how many of Disney's classic movies were copied from works in the public domain, it is ironic how hard Disney has lobbied over the years to keep their works perpetually copyrighted. The last copyright extension, the 1998 Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act (informally known as the "For the Life of Mickey Mouse Copyright Extension Act" or simply "The Mickey Mouse Protection Act") extended copyrights until 95 years from the year of first publication. This year works first published in 1927 entered the public domain, and next year works first published in 1928 (including the first Mickey Mouse cartoon) will enter the public domain.

Unless Disney manages to buy another Mickey Mouse Protection Act from Congress, the copyrights to Disney's 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will expire in 2032, putting the original Disney movie in the public domain. When that happens, any other studio will be free to make a live action version of the 1937 movie, copying it word for word if they want to. Other studios will not be able to copy the 2024 version for another 95 years, but I cannot imagine any studio ever wanting to.

I guess in 1937 women still appreciated a man showing interest in them and pursuing them as if they were something of value. Weird, weird.

I’ve got it! We’ll remake Zoolander, but instead of male models, we’ll make them female models!

It will be groundbreaking!

As was pointed out back in the 40s, the ideal white person is as tall as Goebbels, as blonde as Hitler, and as physically fit as Goering.

Nothing wrong with having this woman as the Snow White actress.

The problem is really their perversion of the story and what sounds like a ham-handed attempt to make it post-modern and woke.
