The 2023 Little League World Series won't feature bunk beds for players staying in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
In a statement to the Associated Press, Little League International announced all beds will be floor-level after one of last year's players was hospitalized after suffering a head injury when he fell out of a top bunk while sleeping:
"Out of an abundance of caution, we placed all beds individually on the floor during last year's World Series, and in preparation for the 2023 Little League International Tournament, Little League decided to provide its participants with single, one-level beds for all of their player housing at each of its tournament locations, including those in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, where the dormitories can accommodate all 14 single beds.

Oliverson went through a "pretty traumatic surgery," but doctors were "really positive" about his progress.
WTF?!
Couldn’t they wear their batting helmets to bed?
ONE injury in how many decades? Suck it up, kid. Don’t ruin the fun for all the others.
And, can we FINALLY retire this horrible liberal COVID-era stinking phrase? “Out of an abundance of caution...”
All I think of when I hear that horrid namby-pamby phrase is hand sanitizer stations, one-way grocery store aisles, and masks.
I am more concerned about how many players and those in the stands will have heart attacks and strokes during the series.
Could use Nerf flooring.
I agree with your sentiment but as long as there are real threats of million/billion-dollar lawsuits the pathetic phrase will remain entrenched.
Me too. My brother and I slept in bunks. Neither one of us ever fell out. Matter of fact I knew other kids that slept in bunks and none of them ever fell out. When we were kids it would have been a big deal and we never heard of it happening.
They could put on side rails like on a crib...
I spent 1961-1965 in fraternity and always took the top bunk. Didn’t fall out once.
The kid ain’t the one behind this.
Have seen a few kids fall out of bunk beds over the years... Not common, but does happen now and again.
“Out of an [over]abundance of caution...”
Make ‘em into bubble boys. That baseball is awfully hard, too.
No doubt it happens. I've just never witnessed it or heard about it first hand.
I blame all of my life’s problems on falling out of a bunk.
I have, and yes kids can get pretty messed up depending on how they land and what they can hit on the way down.
It’s certainly not an everyday thing, but it definitely happens.
Happened to my youngest brother growing up, resulted in an ER visit. Fortunately no broken bones or head trauma but did get some stitches out of it.
“Abundance of caution,” (snort.)
That was always worth a head-shaking chuckle as I walked whichever the hell way I wanted to.
Bravo LLWS. It’s not a joke. Falling out of the top bunk bed can be dangerous. Just ask my sister who fell out of the top bunk in a college door at age 19 and took several months to recover from broken thumb, concussion, sore shoulder and sore elbow. Seems funny until is actually happens.
