Surely, the locals wouldn’t steal from a brother, like they would a big corporation? Even then, that person could request all the local “peacekeeper” and BLM organizations to come and stand guard by the door.
I bet there would be Gov’t grants to pay for any investment and construction. If they couched it in “social justice” language, I imagine they could get big discounts on products from fortune 500 food companies. They’d have the whole market to themselves in that area too.

It’s a bad look right now. That store went in around 2006 to great fanfare. They need to be able to blame corporate greed.
Couple of years ago , after complaining about “food deserts”
they got a supermarket to open in Newark Central Ward aka The Hood
It boasted of a excellent produce section, butcher shop, well stocked shelves
All the media and politicians turned out for its opening
It closed year and half later as nobody in the neighborhood would shop there
So next time whine about “food deserts” remind them of this ......
they need to broaden their horizons

This store and other retail/ condo projects were started in the mid-00’s as DC gentrification expanded further and further east. Developers took over the NY Ave corridor (now a disaster) and other NE areas, and, needing cheaper land, went over the Anacostia River, thinking what is now will always be.
