I know that some people are going to be upset because I say that I hope these Russian soldiers recover. I would like these soldiers to go home and tell their family and friends about the truth of Russia's situation on the ground. This does not mean that I support Russia's actions in any way - only that the more truth that gets disseminated, the faster the war may end.

A sad commentary on the Russian military.
He has good points.
The US military though tends to be much more squared away, procedurally, than most world militaries. The US military, as I have observed it, functions with a truly extraordinary degree of order and discipline.
I think quite a few armies would be as neglectful or more so. Sometimes much more so.
Ref the FOD. The Russians don’t have to worry about it the way our guys do. The Il-76 was designed to be able to use unpaved and gravel runways. Here’s a video of an Il-76MD using an unpaved runway:

It’s not just Ilyushins. MiGs can take off and land using just fields, no runway or road required. Don’t try that with an F16!
Totally different designs from ours.
We do OK.
Partially that is because we’ve never fought a peer or even near peer for a long time. So our battle field operating systems stay in tact, discipline, and morale stay in tact for the most part.
Put any system under enough stress, and it begins to fall apart. Entropy creeps in.
We have it too, example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Ghraib_torture_and_prisoner_abuse
I would argue, our highly “squared away” army today would fall apart pretty fast if things get really bad.
The C-130 can use those runways too.
Of Ryan McBeth's channel, one finds (with sources):
@RyanMcBethProgrammingA look to the many videos as his "content," one finds he like so many other IN THE UNITED STATES has busied himself with "content creation" and opinion, presented as if "news."
Location: United States
Source: https://www.youtube.com/@RyanMcBethProgramming/about"The channel "Ryan McBeth" is monetized! Since Aug 31, 2016, the channel has generated 394,140,436 views. Assuming all views were monetized from day 1* with an average RPM of $3.00, this channel has generated $1,182,421.31 over 2538 days. That's an average of $170,048.77 per year.

And "buy a paid subscriber-ship to substack," because he'd "really appreciate it."
His address as he posts it is a UPS Store in Silver Spring, MD.
He's very adept at self-promotion with a YouTube channel, Twitter, LinkedIn, Substack, Reddit, Instagram, GitHub, Patreon, and more. In addition to selling his "BunkerBranding" t-shirts, he is, as he says, "Available for: 30 second YouTube ads / Product reviews / Giveaways / TV / Media interviews / Speaking Engagements":

The reason I look a little more closely at these and other YouTube channels is that many prove to be self-promotion, 2) bringing in nice YouTube ad revenue, and 3) pass on others' work as a part of their own promotion.
In this deadly war between two non-NATO thugs, it seems many are able to turn the grizzly details of war into a nice profit for themselves. Click. And buy a t-shirt.
And in case one should inquire, I have done this for the Macgregors and seeming "opposing views." A lovely cottage industry for many. This guy is GOOD!
Yes, I was thinking MiGs v. F-16s when I wrote that. The old MiG-21s were actually pretty cool little airdoodles. Never got to fly in one of course, but got to look some over. They looked rather uncomfortable to me, but fun. And had that super commie vibe on the inside.
C-130s are good old birds. I rode on an ancient one that had to use a cratered runway with major (and I mean major) cracks in it, but never just a field. Rough, but it did the job. There was something dripping on my head that seemed like oil, but I couldn’t figure out why there would be oil lines overhead, so maybe it was something else? Poor old thing had seen rough service in Africa and in its last days I suppose at the time.
C-160s are similar and can use dirt runways, too. Not all that different from our C-130s. Rode on those a few times, but they were newer and didn’t have the same “character” as that clattering old C-130 (which I was fond of for some reason, dripping on my head and all). No idea if they still make C-160s.
The C-130 is still in production. I know the Philippines just ordered three new ones from Lockheed last year.
As for the C-160, its maker, Transall, was merged into the Airbus group. Latest such type is the Airbus A400M Atlas, which is in production.
Yes, it’s quite something how these people make the moola off the You Tubes and other social media platforms.
There are a bunch of channels that steal content off others. Macgregor must be popular because there are a number of channels that steal parts of month-old interviews with him on another channel and bill them as New! and make money off them — and sometimes these are posted to FR. He does not have his own channel, but there are several claiming to be him. Lots of grifting off this war.
It’s not just the war people are making $ off, either. A whole cottage industry sprang up with videos and articles making weird claims about Covid and the vaccines. We’ve seen plenty of those on FR!
When people are experts in their fields and post useful content, I think they deserve to earn $ off it. I’m happy to give a monetized click to the repair guy who showed me how to fix my dishwasher. And the little Japanese ladies who taught me Japanese giftwrapping, etc. Or the wildlife channel that cheered me up with leaping lemurs or whatever.
The ones who steal other people’s stuff, not. It’s a jungle out there with all the stolen content.
Ah, thanks. Nice to know these trusty workhorses are still being made. And, well, I just like them.
