The Milwaukee Brewers are on the verge of exploring relocation options as the team looks to renovate American Family Field.

According to FrontOfficeSports, the team is seeking $448million worth of upgrades to the stadium that was opened in 2001.

While relocation is not the go-to move, it appears that MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is pressuring Wisconsin state officials to provide funds by indicating the team could look to move as early as this fall.

American Family Field - formerly known as Miller Park - broke ground in 1996 before its grand Opening Day in 2001.

Before then, the Brewers had been playing in Milwaukee County Stadium - a park that had been open for 50 years before closing in 2000.

It’s been dying for years. Even as far back as the ‘60s, people were escaping to the suburbs so their kids could get a good education.

Unreal. The NBA shook down Milwaukee and threatened to move the Bucks from the fully paid for Bradley Center. The league commissioner complained that the multipurpose stadium lacked amenities and the square footage of other stadiums.

County Stadium, which had played host to the former Braves, the Packers and the Brewers, had to be torn down and replaced because it lacked sufficient space to construct luxury sky boxes (the structure would have been short three such boxes if remodeled), so it had to go.

Now the new stadium is obsolete after less than twenty-five years.

What a shakedown for taxpayers and sports patrons.

Charlotte Hornets had the same problem with the Coliseum. It was built in the late '80s so they did not have enough box seats in them. We didn't really start to build them until the '90s.

It’s not definite. And it turns out the expletive does not have a big enough plot for a stadium.

Maybe before 2020. But I think they're afraid to make that kind of investment now.

Haven't heard a deal made yet. Only that they were talking about it.

Personally, I think one of the casinos should build it. Get the slots in there with sportsbooks.

MGM Stadium. Hard Rock Field. Wynn Coliseum.

The masterminds are the business owners—the crooked politicians are just their instruments.

Not really...businesses couldn't manipulate government if government didn't have the power in the first place. It all starts with government having too much power.

It's corporate welfare. I'm fine with paying $10 for a ticket to a game. But not if it's $50.

This is an old story, going back to at least Walter O’Malley in Brooklyn in the 1950s.

In defense of O'Malley, Ebbetts Field was truly a bandbox, in the vernacular. He saw Southern California as virgin territory where he would have a monopoly (until the Angels came into being) as opposed to New York where there were two other teams. And foresaw the growth that would happen in SoCal too. He was a businessman who made a business decision. I'm not up on the particulars of how Dodger Stadium got built but it seems to be standing the test of time.

Eff them. Still pissed at how they choked in 1982 against the Cardinals in the World Series.

Forty-one years ago. Harvey's Wallbangers - Cecil Cooper, Ted Simmons, Gorman Thomas, Robin Yount... a great team.. Time to move on... of course they haven't been to The Series since.

They should check out somewhere in Ukraine once everything settles down.

That’s where the money is.

It seems the useful life of stadiums is shrinking.

Twenty years seems to be the lifespan new.

When I was a kid we could walk to Memorial Stadium* to see the Orioles play. The bleacher seats cost 75 cents. Last week we went to see the Orioles at Camden Yards and left field seats were $40.

*: I would not walk in that neighborhood now. And Memorial Stadium is gone.

I’m still not quite getting the concept of “honest graft.”
Does honest graft occur when the business starts the bribe,
and dishonest graft when the politician requests a bribe?

If they can’t afford to revitalize their stadium at their expense, they are in the wrong market. Maybe they should consider upscaling to Chicago or Philadelphia.

Chicago and Philadelphia are not what they used to be. I wouldn't be too surprised if Chicago ends up losing the White Sox
