The Milwaukee Brewers are on the verge of exploring relocation options as the team looks to renovate American Family Field.
According to FrontOfficeSports, the team is seeking $448million worth of upgrades to the stadium that was opened in 2001.
While relocation is not the go-to move, it appears that MLB commissioner Rob Manfred is pressuring Wisconsin state officials to provide funds by indicating the team could look to move as early as this fall.
American Family Field - formerly known as Miller Park - broke ground in 1996 before its grand Opening Day in 2001.

Before then, the Brewers had been playing in Milwaukee County Stadium - a park that had been open for 50 years before closing in 2000.

Milwaukee is a dying city. It isn’t as bad as Oakland or SF but has worse weather.
Great web page on how taxpayers get fleeced to pay for stadiums:

Give them bread and circuses...
There’s a long history of this behavior in sports. Team owners insist they need a new stadium or upgrades, threaten to move the team, and if they don’t get what they want, they move the team.
This is an old story, going back to at least Walter O’Malley in Brooklyn in the 1950s. Teams demand a new stadium, and if they don’t get it, they move.
True. The demographics in the Rust Belt are not looking great. But it shouldn't cost more than $10 for a ticket. $5 for a beer. $2 for a hot dog.
You can get plenty of fans in the upper deck.
Let ‘em leave …

The Brewers are blatantly bribing members of the legislature—both parties.
This is organized crime.
It used to be a cool place to grow up with a very strong middle class. It’s dying and resembles something out of Escape from New York, I’m in it almost daily in some very rough areas and it’s getting worse.
Once the A's move to Las Vegas, MLB will lose that leverage.
Where will the Brewers move to? Salt Lake City?
The NFL is going to have a hard time to force teams to force teams to upgrade their stadiums now that there's two NFL teams in Los Angeles.
We've built all the stadiums in the '90s and early '00s. Now we are in a new cycle where the stadiums will have to be refurbished or entirely rebuilt.
The Biden Way.
Not just sports. All the major manufacturers do it. All their “exploring options” for where to put a new plant. The Amazon HQ2 “search” was the same thing. It’s a basic business concept, don’t pay for what you don’t have to. And as long as elected officials think “bringing” or “keeping” jobs in an area is a good way to get re-elected they will whore out their city to keep high profile businesses from paying for things.
20 years old. Ain’t good enough. 30-32 MLB teams. I say go elsewhere. Bob Lurie saved the SF Giants from a move to Toronto(or somewhere) He was a hero. When he couldn’t get a new stadium he sold the team to St. Petersburg in Florida. Became a goat. Locals got together to purchase the team and build their own park with private money. Columnist Dave Newhouse: “Bob Lurie got what he deserved”.
I remember arguing with my lady friends how much we needed to build it for Lurie. They scoffed at the idea knowing there’s other problems needing addressing. Hindsight is 20-20. They were right. Millionaires at the public trough. Disgusting. I think this is what Trump was addressing.
Tickets at the new park are unaffordable and I’m a 2%er.
Sounds like a RAT idea, but I could be wrong
In the case of manufacturers the numbers do work—sometimes.
Stadiums have a stunning track record of being net economic losers:

This website chronicles the economic carnage—pick a city or team of your choice, the story is the same.
The Brewers are bribing every politician they can find—don’t care what party it is...
I sort of like the sound of the Salt Lake City Brewers. It's almost as good as the Utah Jazz.
Billionaires can build it themselves. And they did in L.A. and NYC.
Nah there’s always more cities than teams. Baseball has OKC as the biggest threat, Jacksonville, Austin, Charlotte and plenty more.
Football also has OKC. Portland, Birmingham, Austin. Plus of course possible returns to St Louis and San Diego.
There’s always somebody ready to whore themselves out. Always a threat.
I like the name. It's so crazy that it works!
