RA Capital Management is headquartered in Boston, claims Assets Under Management of about $10 billion, which puts them at the small end of the scale. They claim annualized return of better than 20%, which is pretty good, if true.

I learned about the company from talking to a fellow jet passenger whose math major kid had been hired by the company just after graduation. Supposedly they have their own exclusive 401K which makes 40%/year. I got a sense that it was in the Route 128 beltway but not in Boston proper. Supposedly they use math to predict the stock market, invest accordingly, are very successful, and keep a low profile. I am trying to recall more from my faulty memory, and wishing that I had taken notes at the time rather than relied on my faulty memory.

Sounds like Rennaissance Medallion but they are based on Long Island, although Jim Simons is from Boston.

(maybe) five letters, starting with "R"
heavy on using math for stock market prediction"
Is there an answer to your question?
