Announcers across baseball and beyond were seeing red over reports that the Baltimore Orioles had pulled play-by-play man Kevin Brown from the air over a mundane comment about the team’s recent success in Tampa.
The offending comment was about the fact the Orioles had won more games at Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, this season than they had in the previous three seasons combined. Brown’s remarks were backed up by team game notes that were put together by the Orioles’ media relations staff.
Still, it was reportedly enough to ruffle the feathers of ownership, according to Awful Announcing and later confirmed by The Athletic, that he hadn’t called a game on TV or radio since a radio stint during Baltimore’s series against the Philadelphia Phillies, which ended on July 26. “If you’re going to be so thin-skinned to suspend Kevin Brown, then you have to suspend the entire Orioles (broadcast) truck,” Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay said during his radio show on Monday, noting that Brown’s comments had also been on a graphic on the screen.

Make no mistake, this isn't just the Orioles. Almost every sport, every team, the media is controlled by the team owner.
I don’t get it. What is the offensive comment? Why is what he said offensive, assuming factually true, what’s the problem?
I don’t get it either. Thought I was going to read about him plunging into the culture wars but he basically only commented on how much better the Orioles are, winning away games against a very good Rays team.
That’s what I thought too. It sounds like a compliment to an Orioles team which is having a great season.
Man, can you imagine what they would do to Bob Eucker?
There is some one cheaper than Kevin Brown that the owner wants to bring in to announce games. Not hard to figure out.
I have noticed the news/reporting on our local pro sports teams is more "soviet" than ever.
” the Baltimore Orioles had pulled play-by-play man Kevin Brown (who happens to be white) from the air over a mundane comment about the team’s recent success in Tampa.”
.
An MLB announcer’s salary isn’t even a rounding shortcut in the payroll of an MLB team. There’s got to be more to this story.
In case your not aware, MLB is melanin challenged as far as African American players go.
Since they can’t fix it on the field because they actually have to have the best players playing, don’t be surprised if the successor to this position will be just that.
Public Shaming Works: Wrongfully Suspended Play By Play Man Kevin Brown Will Return To O’s Broadcast Booth On Friday
I hope and expect the owner to eat some humble pie tonight, courtesy of Framber Valdez and the Astros.
Why is everyone surprised? Do you think anyone keeps their job in the MSM if they are perceived as criticizing Biden? What is the difference?
Is this hundred million dollar Dodger Kevin Brown?
Interesting thing about sports teams, is that for all the millions that the performers are paid, the ancillary personnel are usually treated like s-—t and not paid squat. It sounds bizarre to you & me that with payroll in the 10’s of millions annually, that owners will dump someone they pay 80k a year to in order to bring in someone they can pay 60k. I have not heard exceptions to this particular element of professional sports business.
Don’t ever try to understand liberal thinking, you acquire cognitive dissonance the first time you vote for a dimocRAT and it’s impossible to explain UNLESS you have been saved. The condition increases in severity with every dim vote. It sure must suck, being an American communist not knowing anything especially the difference between men and women.
“Is this hundred million dollar Dodger Kevin Brown?”
Good Question. My hunch is that the Orioles owner has other, more serious issues with K. Brown.
As Roseanne Roseannadanna said, “Never mind.” The Orioles Kevin Brown is a youngster who did not play in the bigs.
That movie is a classic. Can you imagine everyone on the set trying to keep their composure around Bob?
