I listened to WBZ radio (I believe), late nights in the 70’s - there was a talk show host who always played this song, “Loving You Has Made Me Bananas” ... good memories

Thanks for posting, I grew up in Boston so remember those newsreader personalities well. Not just on Channel 4 but on Channels 5 and 7 as well. Back then, the local news shows were very important if you wanted to know what was going on in your community, as well as sports scores and local weather. The local news, other than the newspaper, was about the only way to get information in those pre-Internet times.

Even back then, the national news shows that ABC, NBC and CBS put out were mostly worthless. It was the local news shows that mattered in those days.

It was fun to remember just how prehistoric those sets were, especially those weather boards, that meterologists would mark up with magic marker. Veteran meterologist Don Kent (Featured in these clips) handwrote all his own weathermaps, right down to the arcane weathre symbols like wind barbs, which apparently we were all expected to understand. Don Kent had been giving forecasts on radio and TV in Boston since 1937!

Also on Channel 4 in those days was a reporter named Shelby Scott. They always stuck her outside in inclement weather where she would do liveshots by the side of the road, showing us that indeed, it was nasty weather out there. Every now and then, a vehicle would pass by, spraying her with slush. Sometimes bystanders would throw snowballs at her and she would sometimes throw one back.
