A woman has spoken out after her friend's two-year-old daughter was asked to cover up at a swimming pool.
Katie Sturino from New York City took to Instagram to share an anecdote from a friend who took her toddler for a swimming lesson.
The little girl was dressed in swimsuit bottoms when two lifeguards approached her mother and said that she must cover up, despite many of the other little boys at the pool also being half dressed.
The lifeguard told the mother that there was no nudity allowed by the pool, but Katie has criticized this logic and said that 'different rules for boys and girls start young and are reinforced constantly'.
Katie asked social media users for their opinions on the controversial topic, and many were enraged about the 'insane' approach to children.
The video, which attracted over 300,000 likes, revealed the details of the incident and Katie asked viewers whether toddler girls should have to cover up.
She said: 'I was just catching up with my friend, and she said that her two-year-old daughter was at her swim lessons yesterday and all the little boys around her were shirtless.
'Baby boys were shirtless in diapers and she was in... a swimsuit bottom and didn't have her rash guard on yet and the lifeguard came over.
'Two different lifeguards came over at two different times and said "ma'am you need to put a shirt on your daughter, there's no nudity allowed at the pool"'.
Katie quickly conveyed her anger at the lifeguard's comment and said: 'This is when they start policing our bodies.'
She added that this is when girls are told that there is something wrong with themselves, that they must cover up, and that women's bodies are not appropriate.

To be honest with you all, I'd make a boy child wear a t shirt at the pool to prevent skin cancer but hey, that is just me.

Little girls who are toddlera so not need to wear tops. Their physically immature state has no yet started to make her breasts look any different than boys of the same age. Typically little girls show no female-change in their breasts until about 8 years old at the earliest. That is also when child play (3rd grade) starts to separate between boys and girls. By then little girls begin to wear bathng suits with tops.
Men/Boys should be forced to at least wear a Bikini top at public pools.
The girl didn’t have her rash guard on...yet. I didn’t know what that was, so I looked it up. It’s a shirt. So all mom had to do was put the rash guard on the girl, which I guess she was planning on doing all along (otherwise why would she have brought it?) and there would not have been a story.
Little girls should only have to cover up if Joe Biden is around.
The should have arrested the toddler on the spot.
why did the mother take it as a slight of her daughter? What’s wrong with the mother to think that way?
Why not teach a daughter to be cherished and special not just one of the guys?
Down the road as her daughter grows this mother may wish she had taught her from an early age to consider her body worth being uncovered only in private for just her husband.
I have seen way too may very little girls wearing almost nothing in public and parents just fine with it. what are they teaching their child?

The next daughter refused to wear a suit after tiny jellyfish got inside her swimsuit in the surf. Stung her up mean-like.
Sometimes kids have clear thinking. We just potty trained you to maintain a dry butt, but then force you to keep a wet butt? Makes no sense!
