California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s camp on Saturday blasted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ proposed rules for a long-touted debate, arguing that they are an attempt to hide his weaknesses as a candidate.
“What a joke,” Newsom spokesperson Nathan Click said in a statement. “Desantis’ counterproposal is littered with crutches to hide his insecurity and ineptitude — swapping opening statements with a hype video, cutting down the time he needs to be on stage, adding cheat notes and a cheering section.”
“Ron should be able to stand on his own two feet,” he added. “It’s no wonder Trump is kicking his ass.”

DeSantis is not even an issue in this coming election. He knows he’ll never beat Trump, he knows he’ll never get the nomination...It’s all just noise in attempt to sink Trump by attempting to draw support away. All this is as plain as day.
Hate to see it coming from Newsom but spot on.
I guess its free press for DeSantis who seems to be struggling but I still wouldn’t waste my time debate braindead Newsome.
At least Ron is actually running for President. Gavin is just waiting for Biden to step down.
Does DeSantis have a hope of pivoting from hid Trump criticism and joining him as VP or is that gone?
Newsom’s team also appears to worry that their boy won’t do well in front of a live audience.

Newsom wants an empty studio, which is not what you do when you’re a confident public speaker.
Newsom will destroy DeSantis and spit him out in a debate. It will not be a fair fight between the greasy meatball and the Hollywood heartthrob.
Al Gore crushed Jack Kemp in the VP debate back in '96. Jack Kemp tripped himself and never recovered.
Newsom is a slim ball and he's destroying California. But there's a good chance he'll be the next POTUS in '28.

Quiet honestly, no side and no candidate seems to be calling for a real debate. All that is needed is an electronic time keeper - think chess match, but longer intervals. No moderator is needed. Make the debates one-on-one, none of this group stuff. Let the candidates take turns asking and answering questions. No limits on what can and cannot be asked, other than a single question st a time. Let it go on for four to six hours total. I really don’t really care if there is an audience or not, but if there is they should keep their mouths shut.
All DeSantis has to say is that there are more homeless in LA than the entire population of Wyoming. Good job Gavin. By the way, Slick, San Francisco is empty except for druggies and looters… and the entire city smells like Shiite.
