Not all states allow you to hide your identity. Some do. Some don’t.

I know, as I’m on the line between two.
There are avenues to pursue for both.

I’d still drive my current vehicles, stay in my current house.
The 3 splurge items would be a vacation property on a beach, more hunting property and establishing a trust for my daughters. After all charity begins at home right?
I’ve lived a pretty good life, I don’t need many things. I figure the 2 splurged for me would be around 2 million. I couldn’t fathom that much money. Snowballs chance in hell anyhow. Good luck, you can’t win if you don’t play.

Turn in ticket anonymously. Create a LLC whose sole purpose is investing as broadly as possible. Hire a lawyer, a financial manager, and an accountant. Preferably ones that don't know or trust each other. Hire an outside firm to do an audit every now and then. Pay yourself a modest income as CEO based on the performance. Move to the outskirts of some quiet leafy small town. Involve yourself with charities.

Don't buy a bunch of Bugattis and put a big target on your back.

You could probably fund a revolution with this.

What! I didn’t even get a chance to check my ticket this morning.

I figured I was “due” to win it this time!

Darn! Now I have to go out and get another one.

I’m “due” to win it ... I can feel it this time!

Do you not have to claim the prize in the state where the ticket was purchased?

BTW, the best advice I’ve seen for lottery winners is to buy a RV and spend six months travelling and thinking about what you want to do. It takes that long for winning to sink in and for you to realize the choices you do have. IOW, don’t run out and buy that new chevy truck and that 2000 square foot house you’ve been lusting after. Think about what it means to have $400 million. And, btw, tell your relatives that you’ll think about financing their dreams. Think about it and then move far, far away.

No kidding about the Bugattis.

If I hit, I’m gonna buy a mountaintop in north western Montana, build a bomb shelter big enough to hold a couple dozen people, mostly family, 10 years of food for each, air and water filtration, 20 years of diesel for the generators and disappear into the hills. Rest goes to kids charities since I won’t need money at that point. After all the dried goods and MREs are gone, we’ll grow and shoot our own food

Yep, I get my $2 worth of entertainment imagining what I’d do if I won. Cheaper than lots of other forms of amusement.

Have a plan BEFORE you turn in the ticket. You move to another state immediately after cashing in and change your name. Rinse and repeat as often as necessary. Then move to where wealthy people live so you blend in. Or live in a sparse Bohemian style in a small town in the middle of nowhere.

I wouldn’t be buying anything expensive immediately. The only immediate change would be my new lack of employment.
I’d go melt in Kona, HI for a year.
Eating healthy, exercising, and sleeping in.
Someone needs to keep an eye on the horizon for the green flash…

I’d invest it all in the next mega millions and hope to hit. Need more more more! Never enough!

Then when I’m broke again, I’d dream about spending $5 again and hitting big to start all over again. Dreams are what keep us going.

Lol.

Lucky for me I’m mainly a minimalist. A piece of land, books and some travel would keep me content.

Me too. I would however make sure immediate family out to about 2nd cousins or so were taken care of. New cars/trucks for everyone too. Take out small chunk for basic needs for life, invest a chunk for family to get an amount each year, and give to things dear to the heart like st judes and local cancer wards for folks who can’t afford treatment or traveling expenses while getting treatments etc.

As long as I have cherry Italian Ice treats, and steaks I can actually chew lol, and bills paid, and dependable vehicle I’ll be content
