My cat died today. She was 20. She was a beautiful golden brown tabby. She was very good cat to get along with. She loved her family. Yes, I'm saddened, but she lived a pretty good life.
God honoured me by allowing her to pass on before I brought her to the vet for euthanization. The vet told me that the lack of corneal activity probably indicated that she only operating autonomously, with her heart and lungs and bodily functions. But that was all that was left of her.
So, while we will probably have pets in heaven and eternity because that is our nature, to want to have pets. Will God allow the pets we loved to join us in eternity or will we have to satisfy ourselves with new pets only?
I hope so. I’ve lost horses, cats and dogs and it was always heart breaking.
Sorry for your loss.
Have faith.
I don’t measure my age in years, but by the life-spans of my cats.
This is something my wife and I talk about occasionally - she has even said she doesn’t want to go if her pets aren’t there. I do truly hope so, but the comfort they give us here would be different there.
Yes.
Psa 56:8 - You have taken account of my wanderings;
Put my tears in Your bottle.
Are they not in Your book?
Isa 25:8 - he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces; he will remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth.
Rev 7:17 - For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Rev 21:4 - ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
In light of the passage from Isaiah, I don’t think we are going to actually have pets in heaven as we do here on earth.
It seems like ALL the animals will be in close relation to us. If the child is playing near the animals like that, we will be in great relationship with ALL of them, not just the domestic ones.
JMO.
I miss him.
My cat went from being very mobile to not being able to move in the course of a few days. God was merciful to my cat.
When I brought it to the vet, the vet told me that it had been brain dead. It was probably brain dead between when I went to sleep to when I woke up early in the afternoon.
Unfortunately I'll have to share with my ex-wife.
I hope so. Pets have a way of worming their way into our hearts and then break it when they leave you. Would be a great reunion.
I’m sorry to hear it. Condolences to you.
I hope to see all of mine again.
That reminds me of something from 12 years ago. My wife’s father was approaching death, and she drove to be with her family. She and her family had been staying up watching him for many nights. One night Mrs. Gitmo texted me around 2:30 AM. I happened to notice her text (a miracle in itself) and she told me her mom and her two sisters had gone to bed: they were exhausted after a couple weeks of watching over daddy at night. She was alone with daddy.
She told me she thought his time was close because he was saying nonsensical things. I asked her what he was saying. She said he’s talking about a river and tree. But he said the tree is on both sides of the river. That’s obviously delusional and nonsensical. I immediately thought of Revelation 22. I didn’t mention that, but asked what else he was saying. Everything he said was from biblical descriptions of heaven.
I told her to go wake up everyone and tell them to get their Bibles. When they were back I had her tell each thing daddy had described, and after each item I would have them turn to the passage in scripture that reflected what he was saying. I told her to tell them he’s seeing heaven.
Her mom had two dogs who stayed on the back porch and never ever came inside the house. I think she had put the fear of Grannie in them.
Mrs. Gitmo then told me she thought the Holy Spirit was there, because there was a sweet perfume in the air. Her dad weakly pointed to the corner of the bedroom, saying “There He is.” I told her that was Jesus, not the Holy Spirit.
The dogs, who never ever ventured into the house, came running in and sat staring at the corner he had pointed at, wagging their tails excitedly.
That’s when her father left his body.
One of my wife’s sisters had been wailing uncontrollably for days, saying “What are we going to do? Daddy’s dying!!!!” But after this, she refers to that night as the night Jesus came and took Daddy home with Him.
Condolences on your loss. It’s hard to lose them at any age, but 20 is a good long run. Never had any cats live past 14.
Wow, what a great story. Sounds like a truly amazing experience. I am so glad my story, which pales in comparison, helped rekindle that in you, to the point you were willing to share.
It’s unexplained things like that, which build our faith. That make us believe the stories of things that supposedly happened thousands of years ago. But you have to have that faith, first, it seems, before those types of things will happen for you. Or maybe, you just wouldn’t recognize them.
And I’m sure that experience left no doubt your father in law is now in Heaven, which you and your wife now use as a reminder, and motivation to live your lives in the way God would want, as should we all. Thanks again.
I just read your story again, it was so touching. I also thought, the second time through, about those dogs wagging their tails in that corner. I think that’s a good indication they will be in Heaven one day with him, too, if they’re not already there. Something you might want to consider as well. Thanks again.
I hope that is the case.
I saved that long text thread from that night. We dust it off every once in a while, and read it together.
Wow

In a word, no. And you won’t care.
“As my pastor friend says, God will do what is right; somehow; however He does it, it will be alright.”
Exactly - we shouldn’t put our earthly desires on our expectations of what Eternity with God will be like.
