'I do not hold the police accountable for this at all — I hold our city accountable for defunding the police,' says injured radiologist.
A medical doctor in Portland, Oregon, announced she’s switching her political affiliation from Democrat to Republican following a random unprovoked attack by a homeless person which she blames on the city’s progressive liberal policies.
Grisly photos show the extent of radiologist Mary Costantino’s injuries last Friday after she was knocked unconscious from a vicious assault by a homeless perpetrator who struck her with a metal water bottle while she and a friend walked down a sidewalk in Southwest Portland.
Following the attack, Costantino phoned 9-1-1 after she woke up bleeding from her mouth thinking she was about to be killed.
“I thought we were still being sort of attacked in some way,” Costantino said. “I was like, ‘I’m going to just try to verbalize a report of what’s happening, so there’s some record of how I died.’”
Police, however, did not come to her aid for nearly half an hour.
“Officers were dispatched at 10:55 p.m. — about 20 minutes after Costantino says she was struck — and arrived at the scene eight minutes after that,” Fox News reported after speaking with Portland Police Lt. Nathan Sheppard.
By that time, however, “Costantino had already given up and gone home.”
Costantino cited the Democrat Portland city council’s Defund the Police efforts for making the city less safe for residents.
“I do not hold the police accountable for this at all — I hold our city accountable for defunding the police,” Costantino told Fox News Digital. “We don’t have enough police force to protect our citizens, and we did this to ourselves.”
Chilling surveillance footage captured the moment Costantino’s attack unfolded.
“If we don’t have police officers to come to the side of somebody who is under attack, then we’re all on our own,” she said.
The assault is indicative of a larger problem affecting all residents of Portland as the city’s dwindling police force struggles to keep up with the number of calls it receives.
“Our goal is always to help as much as we can, as quickly as we can. But with our staffing being at historic lows, this has become a challenge for us,” Lt. Sheppard told Fox News.
“At the time this call came in, our officers were actively on 26 calls throughout the city,” the police lieutenant explained. “There were 0 free officers and another 52 calls holding.”
Meanwhile, Costantino says the violent incident has “100%” forced her to reconsider her voting practices, and says she won’t vote for Democrats in the future, adding, “I absolutely did not vote for [former Portland City Commissioner] Jo Ann Hardesty,” who was a major supporter of police defunding efforts.
Costantino says she also voted for Republican Christine Drazan in the 2022 governor’s race.
Maybe this is just what it takes to bring people to their senses.

Oregon is a “shall issue” CCW state.
Things will only get better when thugs start getting shot in self defense, and juries absolutely refuse to convict if self defense is plausible.

Even after this kind of thing, many don’t switch, they double down. Wonder if it actually takes.
She still doesn’t realize she is on her own. Cops or not. Thats why the 2A is so important.
Maybe she didn’t know how bad it was... I’m guessing she lives in a safe neighborhood. That said, he needs to pack up and move - Portland’s a democrat hellhole and it’s only going to get worse.
