Russia’s former space chief doubts US landing on Moon

A former chief of Russian space agency Roscosmos has voiced doubt over the authenticity of the 1969 Apollo 11 Moon landing.

“About 10 years ago, when I worked in the government, I sent an official request to Roscosmos to provide me with documentary evidence of the Americans' stay on the moon,” Dmitry Rogozin said in a statement on Telegram on Sunday.

Rogozin said that he was “embarrassed” about the return of Soviet cosmonauts from space expeditions barely able to stand on their feet and undergoing long recoveries, while US astronauts crawled out of their lunar ships, in his words, “like cucumbers from the garden.”

Rogozin further said that he continued to search for evidence on the US landings on the Moon while working at Roscosmos, but said he could not find anything other than the “angry accusations” of some academics who claimed that he undermined Russia’s “sacred cooperation with NASA.”

Rogozin also said he received a call from a high-ranking official accusing him of "aggravating the international situation" with his doubts about the Apollo 11 landing.

“I did not undermine or aggravate anything, but only by virtue of my nature I tried to get to the bottom of the details and establish, at least for myself, the true state of affairs in the issue of exploration of the Moon by our competitors. It was not clear to me how the United States, at that level of technological development of the ‘60s in the last century, did what they still cannot do now,” Rogozin said…

“There are a lot of those “nutcases” out there—many of them have IQs significantly above yours”

ABSOLUTELY - and they all claim that the West can ‘solve’ Global Warming itself by returning to the Stone Age, and what China does (building at least one coal plant a week) simply doesn’t matter.

Lol. IQ has nothing to do with wisdom or sanity.

Other evidence: https://www.nasa.gov/vision/space/features/21jul_llr.html

A cutting-edge Apollo 11 science experiment left behind in the Sea of Tranquility is still running today.

The Apollo 11 lunar laser ranging retroreflector array.

Ringed by footprints, sitting in the moondust, lies a 2-foot wide panel studded with 100 mirrors pointing at Earth: the “lunar laser ranging retroreflector array.” Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin put it there on July 21, 1969, about an hour before the end of their final moonwalk. Fifty-four years later, it’s the only Apollo science experiment still running.

****SNIP****

Here’s how it works: A laser pulse shoots out of a telescope on Earth, crosses the Earth-moon divide, and hits the array. Because the mirrors are “corner-cube reflectors,” they send the pulse straight back where it came from. “It’s like hitting a ball into the corner of a squash court,” explains Alley. Back on Earth, telescopes intercept the returning pulse—”usually just a single photon,” he marvels.

The round-trip travel time pinpoints the moon’s distance with staggering precision: better than a few centimeters out of 385,000 km (about 240,000 miles), typically.

Targeting the mirrors and catching their faint reflections is a challenge, but astronomers have been doing it for 35 years. A key observing site is the McDonald Observatory in Texas where a 0.7 meter (2.3 foot) telescope regularly pings reflectors in the Sea of Tranquility (Apollo 11), at Fra Mauro (Apollo 14) and Hadley Rille (Apollo 15), and, sometimes, in the Sea of Serenity. There’s a set of mirrors there onboard the parked Soviet Lunokhud 2 moon rover—maybe the coolest-looking robot ever built.

“You have convinced me that no fact or set of facts would convince you that US astronauts landed on the moon; which they did.”

No conspiracy nut has ever admitted they were wrong.

I grew up around the Johnson Space Center, I’ve known many astronauts and dozens of engineers who worked on Gemini, Apollo and the Space shuttle. I knew Kris Kraft who was instrumental in pushing me towards computers. It would simple be impossible to hoax the moon landings with these folks.

I’m personal friends with Charlie Duke. Charlie, like a lot of the guys of his generation simply was not built to be involved in anything shady.

For many years I went to the Outpost Tavern prior to it burning down and it was full of NASA engineers. None ever intimated that the moon landing was a hoax and I’ve been around those folks when they were pretty intoxicated. Today, you can go to places like Carlos’s Beer Garden outside of Houston and you can still run in to retired NASA engineers who were involved in getting the US to the moon. In all my years of being around such people the only comment they will make about “The Moon Landing Hoax” is very loud laughter.

I also met a number of Russians involved with NASA and none have ever questioned that the US went to the moon.

I collect rocks and minerals, I have seen moon rocks first hand and there is no way they are from the Earth nor could they have been manufactured in some way or faked.

More entertaining to one up them.

“Moon landings were faked?! Pfft! You probably still believe the moon is real.”

That’s impressive testimony, but nothing anyone can say will ever convince the person you addressed it to!

It would have been 100 times more difficult and exspensive to fake a landing that is done well enough to pass the smell test that actually landing on the moon.

Has our government ever lied to us?

Perhaps! Or perhaps he’s right?

“On July 20, 1969, NASA spacecraft Apollo 11 landed on the moon with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins on board.”

Collins never landed on the moon. He stayed in the orbiter. Sheesh.

We installed a mirror up there to bounce lasers off and measure exact distance of the moon.

These days, you could also use a telescope to see the tracks and gear that was left.

Was that to easy?

Dmitry Rogozin

This is the dweeb who compared Falcon9 to a "pogo stick".

Try landing and reusing YOUR boosters, Dmitry!

Oh wait.

You can't.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahahaha!

The Soviet Space Program was impressive.

The N1 was certainly impressive.

It blowed up real good.

Earthbound telescopes can't see that stuff, it's just too small. Atmospheric distortion would probably make it impossible to see from the ground. A telescope in low earth orbit would theoretically be able to see them, but current technology (at least the kind that's unclassified) doesn't quite have the resolution. The Hubble misses it by just a little bit.

But spacecraft in lunar orbit can get fine pictures like the ones I posted above.

Very cool that you’re friends with Charlie Duke, the man who was on the other end of the comms link hearing the words “Houston, Tranquillity Base here — the Eagle has landed”.

To be fair, their ability to keep the Progress and Soyuz spacecraft programs going all this time IS impressive. They never evolved, but at least they never threw the old stuff away.

Their communists are rather more careful than our communists. Our communists threw the space program way in favor of giving money to feral urbanites.
