Advocates for electric vehicles have once again been hit with a rather inconvenient fact.
With gas prices surging, the Biden administration has been relentlessly urging Americans to switch to electric vehicles as an alternative, with the supposed added benefit of being able to stop climate change.
The idea behind this push seems to be that it is cheaper to charge an electric vehicle than it is to fuel a car in the current economy. Thus, Americans who use EVs can rest assured that they do not have to worry about the price of gas.
However, a new report is bringing all of that into question, suggesting that it may in fact be more expensive to charge an electric vehicle.

I would be interested in reading the actual study quoted in this article. I would like to know who conducted the study, who funded it and a lot of other details. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be a reference or link that I can follow. If anyone can find the link please post it.
“I have no problem with EVs”
I actually do. They pollute the planet for the mining to make their batteries and they going to drive up electricity costs for everyone.
They wont get that complicated, they will just turn it off
I would be interested in reading the actual study quoted in this article.
Are local govts still putting in free chargers at places like the front parking spaces at the county library?
My question is what is it going to do toe electricity rates. I might not own an EV but will I be paying more for heating, air conditioning, and just living because electricity rates will be going up?
Indeed.
I also had to charge it at home (dunno how much that added to my electricity bill) and that meant running an extension cord across my front lawn (temporary setup since it wasn’t my car). And someone unplugged it overnight, making it moot.
And now, states are realizing the loss in revenue from taxes on fuel so they’re looking at adding an “EV Tax” to these things. They’re just gonna end up not all that economically attractive when all is said and done.
But no exhaust they say. LOL.... The stack at the power station is their exhaust pipe. Environmentally friendly, they say: yeah, vast open pit mining operations are always “environmentally friendly”, especially in foreign lands using practically slave labor.
Liberalism is a chronic, no-cure, debilitating mental disease.
Let the free market do its job, instead of having a corrupt, moronic govt trying to force this BS down the consumers’ throats.
How many people can afford a virtue-signaling, single-purpose, hobby car to be used exclusively for commuting and short around-town trips? Most sane people want a dual-purpose car that can do that daily commuting and local-store grind, PLUS can be used for weekend jaunts or long-haul trips one to four times a year.
What are your add on rates, tariffs, and taxes?
EC
Yes, welcome to socialism being all about control and redistribution. There is also a myriad of other secondary problems - for example these battery fires everywhere that burn down everything from a garage to an international cargo ship. Lots of people will die if it really gets going, plus other things like DIY’s overloading circuits, theft of vehicles (like catalytic converters have become) and third world poisoning of people to say the least. And oh the climate nonsense is a scam so the leftists will be even more evil in a short time, and that is just the beginning. Think about the wars between the windmill greenies (subsidies) and the pro-EV folks coming to a town near you, it’s going to be quite a riot.
Battery replacements are around $20,000. Makes the car worthless
—
About what I paid for my last car in 2021 and it will last for 10 to 15 years before I replace it (based on how long I kept previous new cars).
Did the study adjust cost for the fact that gasoline is taxed to maintain the roads while the power charging electric cars has no equivalent tax?
Thank you for the link.
“more to charge publically”
I don’t own an EV so don’t know the ins and outs of the racket, but my guess is that the public charging station is a commercial device and hence the business that owns that device charges you a mark up over their expense for electricity from the utility.
One thing I do know about electric utilities is that commercial electric rates billed are significantly higher than the residential rates so that may have something to do with it too.
The fuel pricing doesn’t make sence. How can it cost 50% more to charge publically on some cars and 10% more on the others. The price of electricty will be the same no matter what car you are charging. This is a bogus article.
There is variation in the vehicles, charging stations, charging times. etc.
Just like an average, 50% are above and 50% below with a wide variation. The cost of an ev or gas car is personal. It depends on a lot of things. My most expensive vehicle in cost per mile used to be my motorcycle.
“The final cost”
Funny, off topic, repair story for you-
Decades ago my Dad had a Saturn. One day the battery light came on and figured it was the alternator.
He often did work on cars himself but it was under warranty still so took it to the dealer.
They quickly confirmed it was the alternator so he left figuring he’d pick it up the next day (my Mom followed him up there).
Well, days go by and he hears nothing but wasn’t worried because we had several vehicles. He gets it after a week.
Turns out, the mechanic screwed up big time - Saturn had aluminum blocks (I don’t know if both top and bottom) and the brackets were molded as part of the block.
Well, you guessed it, the mechanic over-tightened the bolt and broke the bracket. Big oops!
The funny part was the service invoice (no charge due to warranty) that said:
Problem - Battery light comes on.
Solution - Replace engine.
Sure.
I noticed that the article changed “some” to “most” in the title.
That’s poor journalism.

Six, I think. Lol!
