ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The oldest historically Black collegiate fraternity in the U.S. says it is relocating a planned convention in two years from Florida because of what it described as Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration’s “harmful, racist and insensitive” policies towards African Americans.

Orlando is a large convention venue that rivals Las Vegas, with downtown Orlando at night and on weekends often a mass street party. The economic benefits of that kind of tourism tend to be concentrated in a limited number of hotels and at bars and nightclubs in downtown Orlando and on the International Drive tourist strip. On the whole, a single Comic Con gathering at the Convention Center brings more visitors and money with far less disorder and crime than a drop in the bucket black college fraternity gathering. They will not be missed.

Yeah, if The Big Bang Theory has only taught us one thing, it’s that nerds aren’t usually prone to drunken brawls, sexually assaulting females and attacking White folks indescrimanantly and for no reason.......for the other group you mentioned.......it’s rare when those things DON’T happen.

“Let me know when they boycott a cruise ship”

Good luck. I remember back in the day, cruise ships could trust passengers to tip the staff accordingly.....nowadays it’s factored in to your shipboard bill.

Just like a lot of restaurants now automatically factor in the tip in for large groups, I suspect there’s a specific group of people that at least in part drove all that.

Many of the black fraternities brand their Greek letters onto their arms. Not tattoo....BRAND.

Yeah, I’ve seen those brands on football players.

Let a predominantly white frat try to do that to a black and see what happens

An older married couple who were friends of mine, now deceased, were college sweethearts. They told of how in the mid-1950s, a common date or sorority or fraternity outing for the Florida State University student body would be to walk to the nearby black university, Florida A&M, to watch a football game and enjoy their first rate band. The white students from FSU and their dates were utterly safe and well-treated. Nowadays, few would risk such an adventure.
