ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The oldest historically Black collegiate fraternity in the U.S. says it is relocating a planned convention in two years from Florida because of what it described as Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration’s “harmful, racist and insensitive” policies towards African Americans.

No OT for the police that week/weekend…
And the fraternity will change its name to Alpha Sigma Sigma.
The glass stores are sad. Potential business just took a dive.
ISWYDT! Very clever 👍 LOL!
“No OT for the police that week/weekend”
Where I come from we call that a “win win”! 😁
it’s important to consider that Gov. DeSantis has also taken steps to support and uplift the Black community in Florida. For example, he recently signed a bill that provides funding for historically Black colleges and universities in the state. Additionally, his administration has worked to increase access to healthcare and job opportunities for African Americans in Florida.
Is this a big event? I’ve never heard of them.
Wiki
Alpha Phi Alpha’s membership is predominantly African-American in composition with brothers in over 680 college and graduate chapters in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Since its founding in 1906, more than 290,000 men have joined the membership of Alpha Phi Alpha and a large percentage of leadership within the African-American community in the 20th century originated from the ranks of the fraternity.
If there were only 290,000 since 1906 it must not be a large number now.
I doubt Floridians mind.
Back in ‘86, when I was president of my fraternity and personally scrutinized for adherence to my Fraternity’s “no hazing” policies (amomg the only in the nation at the time), the APhis would publicly haze and demean their pledges right on campus. Everyone just looked the other way.
We were always thankful to bring in our very rare few black brothers, cuz those APhi guys were self segregating and overtly racist. Yet, I defended them because I “felt sorry for black people” at the time, and my strong conservative brothers metaphorically beat that crap out of my noggin, immediately. I learned about the “bigotry of low expectations” before Limbaugh coined it, years later.
Yes, Governor DeSantis has done many great things for the state and its people. During covid he protected Floridians from the draconian federal mandates many other states had to live through, while ensuring monoclonal antibody treatments were available to those who neeeded it, at least until the current resident of the Whitehouse cut off the states’ supply.
He more than likely handled the covid issue better than any other Governor......regardless of what the last republican president is running around saying.
Maybe this will change the demographics of Spring Week next year
To the relief of many Floridians
“Everyone just looked the other way”
And that’s the problem, everybody’s scared to death of being labeled a racist.
Whites need to overcome that BS fake leverage.....I have.
Black preachers have been spewing political rhetoric from the pulpit for decades with impunity.
One thing for sure, blacks are very fortunate White folks don’t stick together like they do, if that were the case, I suspect there’d be a whole lot less of ‘em in this country than there are.
I live in the Orlando area. At best, black college gatherings bring a wave of disorder and criminality to Orlando’s nightlife. This is to be more or less expected when often fatherless young men of any race gather in large numbers without supervision looking for a good time.
When I was in Army Boot Camp, one of guys in my platoon had been in AϕA. He claimed that Boot Camp was much easier.
They sound like a real bunch of A-holes
“The convention draws between 4,000 and 6,000 people and has an economic impact of $4.6 million, the fraternity said.”
A couple of summers ago a black promoter brought something called “orange crush” to the beaches where I am. He touted 2000+ attendees would participate. The city spent a ton on extra security only to find the actual attendance was more like just a few hundred at best.
I wouldn’t doubt this 4.6 million they are throwing out there is more than likely inflated by 75%.
Let me know when they boycott a cruise ship.
