Biography ^ | 7/14/20 | Sara Kettler

Wearing her own red one-piece, the 'Charlie's Angels' star posed for the now-famous image in her Los Angeles backyard.

For Farrah Fawcett, 1976 was a big year. Besides achieving breakout success on the small screen as one of Charlie's Angels, that was the year her iconic swimsuit poster was released. This pinup poster, which showcased Fawcett's wholesome beauty and sex appeal, would be prominently placed on millions of bedroom and dorm room walls across the United States and around the world. Explored in the special Biography: Farrah Fawcett Forever, it also became a defining feature of the 1970s and is considered to be the best-selling poster of all time (a record that's unlikely to be broken now that the internet's around). Here's a look at how this famous swimsuit photo came to be, and how involved Fawcett was in its creation.

Steve Martin used to do a stand-up routine where he would claim, “Farrah Fawcett never once called me...and after all the time I spent holding her poster up with one hand!”

I remember that story that her hair spelled “Sex”. LOL. It probably increased sales.

One of my buddies lined the wall over his lab bench with almost a dozen Playboy centerfolds. Life was simpler before HR departments.

—”Farrah Fawcett did nothing for me.”

At that time Mike Royko’s column on Farrah Fawcett noted that she was famous for her nice hair and good teeth.

And went on to say his dog also had nice hair and good teeth.

I did enjoy reading Royko.
Near the end, he was given a bum’s rush by early wokes.

Steve Martin- “Boy oh boy, I am so mad at Farrah Fawcett-Majors. She is so conceited. She has never called me once And after the hours I’ve spent holding up her poster with one hand! Geez!”

Comedian/actor/writer/musician Steve Martin went on tour in 1978 in support of his 1977 “Let’s Get Small” album and the 1978 release (and SNL performance of) the single, “King Tut.” He had a joke in that routine about the Farah poster:

“Farah Fawcett is SO STUCK UP! I’ve been famous now for SIX MONTHS and she hasn’t telephoned me even once.”

“And after all the hours I spent holding up her poster (with one hand) .... “

Is that next to Fonzie’s jacket, Archie Bunker’s chair and the Ruby Slippers from Wizard of OZ ?

I haven’t been there in 25 years or more.

We had a chemistry teacher in HS with a dirty old man thing for FF. Someone put the poster inside the roll-iup periodic table in front of the room.
