Adoptive mother, husband charged with murder of 5-year-old PA son whose brain was ‘obliterated’
The adoptive mother of a 5-year-old Pennsylvania boy who died in February and her husband were both arrested and charged with the boy’s murder last week after doctors said he showed signs of horrific abuse and torture.
Lauren and Jacob Maloberti, of Delmont, were slapped with criminal homicide for the Feb. 7 death of little Landon Maloberti on Thursday, the Westmoreland County District Attorney announced.
“Landon had blunt force trauma to his head and neck, blunt force trauma to his torso, and blunt force trauma to his extremities,” Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli said at a press conference announcing the charges.
The couple brought the bruise-covered child to the hospital on Jan. 30 after he lost consciousness.
The boy died about a week later, according to Ziccarelli’s office.
Little Landon suffered “severe child abuse” that left him unable to stand, eat or drink at the hands of his adoptive family.
The parents then launched a now-defunct GoFundMe campaign that raised more than $5,000 for the child’s funeral costs, investigators said.
A doctor at UPMC Children’s Hospital said the 5-year-old suffered three brain bleeds and his brain was “obliterated,” according to a criminal complaint obtained by WPXI-TV.

What is Maloberti, Italian?
My wife and I adopted our son, his baggage was almost more than we could handle (at 4 years old, no less). We persevered and have a wonderful son now.
My husband and I had very strict rules on spanking: only swats on the bottom, no more than 3 swats, only as a last resort, and never swat before the age of 2 years old.
My children only received one spanking each as kids.
The only time I ever broke that rule was when my oldest, at 12 years old, got mouthy infront of his friend. I smacked him in the face and then politely told his friend to head home. My son was shocked.
At 13, he was almost 6 inches taller and decided he wasn’t afraid of mom anymore. Again, he got mouthy. This time my husband came in. “She is my wife! You do not speak to my wife that way!”
That got him back in line quickly.
Unless you raise a child from birth, you don’t know what they have been through, what will trigger them, what is going on in their little minds. Children require love, patience, guidance, security, and consistency. For traumatized children, that need is tenfold.
The last thing they need is to be beaten to death.
God, hold this little boy close.
amish and mormons have their own issues. No way.
What a ridiculous question. Why does that even matter?
I would just hang them in public in front of the courthouse where they were convicted. Make sure the Tee Vee cameras are there, too.
People are paid by the state for at risk adoption
Look at the pictures of the parents. She looks like a freak. Doesn’t anyone evaluate appearance any more?
They have 5 kids. My guess is that they adopt or foster for pay
Agreed.
Abuse has always happened. But frankly this is a local story. The internet needs content so every titillating story is national and sometimes international.
When I see what people have to go through and the expense involved in adopting, I cannot fathom why anyone willing to endure that process would treat a child like that.
I don't think so. When you go out to eat and the server has hardware on her/his face, dirty clothes, dirty hair, dirt under their fingernails, indolent manner...etc. you just know no one has done proper ‘evaluation’ on them.
I mean, if I owned a business, not one looking like that would be selected to represent me or my business.
Are you offended?
Not in the least. But you should be embarrassed.
Not at all.
Seems you have issues. You should get that taken care of.
Watch out. The eye-talians might be after you. Seems you’re scared of them.
"Seems you’re scared of them."
