Who's in, who's out: A look at which candidates have qualified for the 1st GOP presidential debate
My San Antonio ^ | July 30, 2023 | MEG KINNARD

With less than a month to go until the first Republican presidential debate of the 2024 campaign, seven candidates say they have met qualifications for a spot on stage in Milwaukee.

DONALD TRUMP

Campaign advisers have said the former president has not made a final decision about the debate. One noted that “it’s pretty clear,” based on Trump's public and private statements, that he is unlikely to appear with the other candidates.

RON DESANTIS

The Florida governor has long been seen as Trump's top rival, finishing a distant second to him in a series of polls in early-voting states, as well as national polls, and raising an impressive amount of money. If Trump is absent, DeSantis may be the top target on stage at the debate.

TIM SCOTT

The South Carolina senator has been looking for a breakout moment. The first debate could be his chance. A prolific fundraiser, Scott enters the summer with $21 million cash on hand.

NIKKI HALEY

The only woman in the GOP race, Haley has said transgender students competing in sports is “the women’s issue of our time” and has drawn praise from a leading anti-abortion group, which called her “uniquely gifted at communicating from a pro-life woman’s perspective.”

VIVEK RAMASWAMY

Ramaswamy's campaign says he met the donor threshold earlier this year.

CHRIS CHRISTIE

Christie called on the former president to “show up at the debates and defend his record.”

DOUG BURGUM

Burgum, a wealthy former software entrepreneur now in his second term as North Dakota’s governor, has been using his fortune to boost his campaign.

WHO HASN'T QUALIFIED:

MIKE PENCE

Trump's vice president has met the polling threshold but has yet to amass a sufficient number of donors

ASA HUTCHINSON

PERRY JOHNSON

LARRY ELDER

WILL HURD

FRANCIS SUAREZ

He also wants to bring back the Trans Pacific Partnership that Trump get us out of.

Vivek is clever but I think his America First appeal is to siphon support of those who are tried of Trip whining about 2020 and indictments instead of being focused on a new agenda for 2024.

I didn’t know about his pro-trans in the military stance. People speculate that Trump might choose him as his running mate. Ramaswamy has not said anything negative about Trump and Trump has said nothing negative about Ramaswamy.

He is the only reason they would get any ratings so why would he help any of his rivals out?

It's not a coronation.

I truly hope Trump skips these phony-baloney “debates” populated by a whole bunch of do-nothing, no-nothing RINO ankle-biters ... Trump has no need to prove himself in debates, as he already has appeared in at least two dozen national debates already ...

Additionally, Trump’s positions and promised actions have been repeatedly articulated in VERY specific detail in dozens of rallies, most of which have been nationally televised by multiple outlets ...

Trump also has a well-documented record of amazing accomplishments in his four years as President ...

There giant amongst men gains nothing by standing on stage with a crowd of RINO loud-mouth Lilliputians while being targeted by fascist corporate media “moderators” who themselves attempt to debate Trump under the guise of hurling gotcha questions at him ...

If Trump rightfully refuses to attend, these farcical “debates” become meaningless and pointless exercises, and after the first few minutes of the first “debate”, almost no one will ever tune in again ...

. . . .

Good point. And I would add the recent CNN town hall where Trump was on the other end of a tough Q&A by a CNN female attack dog.

“Trump should do a live interview with Tucker Carlson while fox is hosting the no chance debate.”

I agree.

Bringing leftist Democrats into the Republican Party is Trump’s game, that we’re all supposed to be so thankful for. Probably why he’s speaking so glowingly of China right now.

The problem with your fantasy Trump/China theory is that Trump is the THE ONE who shot down the TPP. Whichever ankle biter your clan is supporting also supports TPP.

And before you baffle us with more B-S, show us where (your) favored rino has sworn to defeat TPP.

“show us where (your) favored rino has sworn to defeat TPP.”

Frankly if they have ever supported anything like TPP it should be disqualifying.

It has been obvious for THREE DECADES that these agreements were economically destructive. So to support more of them in 2016 = UniParty Swamp of the worst kind !

The only one I would forgive is supporting NAFTA and later disavowing, and never supporting another trade agreement again.

“Sorry to hear they moved your job to Mexico. But cheer up. The tv says there are all sorts of jobs now”

“Indeed.. I have three of those jobs”

Trump deserves a lot of credit for keeping his 2016 campaign promise to block the TPP, which he did, immediately after the election.

But here he is at the WEF, in 2018, wanting to strike up a new deal.

Trump says he would reconsider Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal

That Trump wanted to re-negotiate a bad trade deal is good. Not bad.

You just forfeited the match.
All you had to do was to show where your ankle biter swears to defeat the TPP as written. You did not do that because you could not. Bye.

Watching you trying to completely ignore Trump over at the WEF talking about making new trade deals with China is hysterical.

Wasn’t 2018 the very year his daughter was named one of the official WEF “Young Globalist Leaders?”

Well, not quite, looks like that officially happened in 2014. And Trump even tried putting her on the short list to head the WORLD BANK.

You must be horrified. I know I am.
