Good advice.
If a female approaches you for something work related, cut them off and request they send you an e-mail and let them know you’ll respond via e-mail. Then, keep the e-mail response strictly about the subject.
Won’t work; the lionesses would then accuse them of creating a hostile workplace and lack of cooperation. I say this as a woman. HR departments are the devil.
Ridiculous advice.
I’m a female executive. I have male co-workers on all tiers that I interact with daily (organizationally subordinates, laterals, and superiors). Most of my client groups contain men.
In my last position, every person who answered directly to me was a man. I had no difficulty whatsoever earning their trust and respect. I listened to their concerns, addressed them as a team, made sure they had the training and equipment necessary to be successful in their position, and rewarded them with recognition and financial compensation for a job well done. When one of my staff retired, he gave me the first and only hug and told me it was a pleasure working with me and that I was the sharpest, most considerate boss he ever had.
I’m focused on business; in my interactions, I keep the focus on business. I don’t tell baudy jokes, don’t engage in office gossip, and treat those around me with dignity and respect.
Only people who don’t possess a professional skill set will use alternate currency (looks, flirting, ego, network, manipulation) to get ahead. They are liabilities and should be weeded out immediately. If the boss is the issue, find another job.
But by all means, if this counter-productive approach works for you, have at it. I would not encourage any other woman to behave in this manner in the workplace.
