A Homosassa, Florida man was arrested after posing as a Citrus County deputy and holding a couple at gunpoint during a home invasion.
The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office said 32-year-old Eric William Johnson was driven to a residence on July 19 by Maynard David Selvog, and when they arrived, Johnson got out of the vehicle while carrying an AR-15 style rifle that turned out to be an “Air-Soft” rifle.
After exiting the vehicle, Johnson knocked on the door of a camper and allegedly shouted, “Citrus County Sheriff’s Department.”
He told the victims to exit the camper as he pointed the rifle at them, and believing he was a man of the law, they complied.
Johnson continued to hold the two victims at gunpoint, the sheriff’s office said, and at one point the female victim tried to call 911, though Johnson took the phone away.
As soon as Johnson became distracted, the male victim ran to a nearby home for help and told police he noticed Selvog sitting in the driver’s seat of an SUV that was located near the road.
Johnson chased the man to the nearby home then kicked in the door to gain entry to the home.
The homeowner, the victim and Johnson got into a fight inside the home, police said, and the homeowner was able to disarm Johnson and hit him in the head with the butt of the weapon.
Selvog and Johnson fled the property, but deputies located Selvog at a nearby residence, who disclosed where Johnson was hiding.

It’s just fun to say.
It’s kind of like a train sound.
So Mr Johnson has been arrested for impersonating a police officer. Look on the bright side, Mr Johnson. You are now eligible to join fake cop Jeremy Dewitte‘s Metro State.
And if you don’t know who the fascinating Mr Dewitte is, here you go:
It is great fun to say! I also love Astatula and Apalachicola
Apalachicola
Great with ice at a barbecue!
How about Weeki Wachee and Okahumpka?
And there’s always Okefenokee.
I well remember in Chicago in the 60s and 70s that it was a common practical joke for someone to approach a home, a meeting and yell “Chicago Police” or “FBI” or “INS” or other police group.
I saw it when a non-political group was smoking pot; when a political group on was conspiring against the mayor; when the PSP and PLP were fighting among themselves; and when there was nothing happening but normal chit chat.
In all instances it was accepted as a practical joke...a joke that often got people uptight for a few minutes.
It is speculated that when the Black Panthers heard it... they initially thought it was a practical joke as they had heard it many times before as a practical joke. Indeed post Panther assassination others equated that practical joke to the boy who cried wolf.
Does that kind of practical joke still exist in 2023?
“SWATing” is a very dangerous sort of twist on this sort of practical joke. It can easily get people killed, both innocent homeowners (and their pets) and highly-strung, trigger-happy cops.
I live there. It’s fun when talking to some customer service talking head and listen to them stumble trying to spell it. And they NEVER repeat the name :-)
