Why didn’t Trump name a new head of the response team?

No matter how you slice it, Trump was ultimately responsible. Truman said, “the buck stops here”.

Apparently, everyone else wants to simply pass the buck.

You underestimate the power Fauci actually wielded. First off, he was a Federal Government employee. My father used to work for NIH, and getting rid of a government employee was not easy. Getting rid of an employee as high up as Fauci, would have been impossible.

You have to remember, when Truman was president, he had the authority to get rid of a government employee at his whim.

That authority was eliminated by JFK, when he allowed them to unionize.

Thus, your statement, is naïve at best. You don't even understand why the government has become the problem it has become. Unaccountable bureaucrats who wield more power than our elected officials. These bureaucrats work with Democrats, against Republicans.
