Chupacabra Allegedly Captured by Kentucky Farmer

It no longer appears to be alive.

A Kentucky farmer shot and killed a mysterious creature he described as a chupacabra back in 2010, but sometimes the story resurfaces because the footage does show a very strange and not immediately identifiable animal. Whatever happened to the creature?

The chupacabra is a cryptid originating in Mexican, South American, and Puerto Rican legend that translates to “goat sucker” by way of its hallmark association of draining the blood of livestock such as goats, sheep, cows, or chickens. The mythical critter of urban legend was popularly introduced to the North American audience via the hit show The X-Files, which prompted an increase in sightings in the states that border Mexico. The sightings have continued over the years and now often occur in the northern states, as well.

Woman on City Street Appears to Freeze in Place For Several Moments Read More The strange hairless animal shot in Kentucky has a mix of canine and feline traits but no hair or fur anywhere on its body, but does not seem to be from mange. Coyotes or other animals with severe mange are often mistaken for chupacabra, however those animals look like they are suffering from illness or disease. Mange doesn’t leave an animal looking healthy, and whatever the farmer shot did not appear to have any physical problems other than a complete lack of hair.

The creature was reported to be preserved and turned over to the Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, but reports on the reason vary. Some say it was for a DNA test but later reports say the species was not in doubt- only the cause of the hairlessness. The creature has been officially declared a “naked raccoon” which is an increasing phenomenon being discovered in which otherwise healthy raccoons seem to just have no hair.

The creature could plausibly be a raccoon, however looking at other pictures of hairless raccoons still leaves some wiggle-room on any identification done without a DNA test. Some of them look like, well, hairless raccoons while others look more like the chupacabra than the trash-panda scamps that scavenge our garbage bins.

Hiding a chupacabra by calling it an ‘exotic hairless’ something or other does seem like a good way to cover up their existence though, so maybe we can’t rule it out completely.

OMG!!! I’m so glad you survived the encounter! That beast has killed hundreds and maybe even thousands of people! You’re a lucky man to have come so close to Death and live to talk about it!

“Mange.”

Exactly. Seen many Coyotes, Foxes, Badgers, Raccoons, and even Ringtailed Cats with complete mange.

I rescued an abandoned border collie mix that looked like that before her hair grew back. It isn’t always mange but a natural mite will cause hair loss when a mammal is malnourished. This was probably some poor dog looking for food.

“It looked strange so I shot it.”.

The fact that they really do not show clear pictures of it raises suspicions about the claims being made.
