Poverty in Britain - Why are millions of Brits so broke?

Britain has a historically low unemployment rate of 3.6%. Yet poverty levels are breaking all records. It’s a paradoxical situation: almost 15 million Britons are considered poor these days, although there’s almost full employment. The reason: inflation and high energy costs.

Galloping inflation and a dramatic spike in energy costs in recent months are forcing millions of Britons into poverty. Wages fluctuate in an "uberized” working world of precarious employment conditions. Over the past 10 years, beginning with David Cameron, the government has scaled back its support to vulnerable members of society. The result: reduced life expectancy. Disadvantaged Britons are dying 10 years sooner than their wealthier compatriots - victims of what’s become known as the "shit life syndrome” - a life marked by poor living conditions, disease and addiction.

The documentary profiles people who have a job but can still afford nothing - from Blackpool in the west, to Ashton-under-Lyne and Cumbria, on the border with Scotland.

Doesn’t help that they have been invaded by migrants who are takers. That’s going to be us before too long

Their governments have deliberately imported lazy, aggressive, military-age males and given them a status they could never have achieved in their home countries: free food, free clothing, free lodging, free medical care, no requirements to assimilate, literally everything they need. Their imams tell them they're a conquering force and there's really no good reason for them not to believe that. Meanwhile veterans are being moved from what lodgings they might have managed in order to accommodate the invaders.

And the government of the United States is doing exactly the same thing.

British liberals I know are proud to be poor and to remain poor for some reason. It’s really bizarre. They just love to whinge and complain and think nothing of it, while praising the socialist system of council flats, extremely high taxes and low wages.

> Britain has a historically low unemployment rate of 3.6%. <

It all depends on how you define “unemployment”. Here’s the bottom line. All government statistics are the same, regardless of the country. The numbers they put out mean nothing.

And now a word from George Carlin.

Brits are taking a pounding from Rishi Sunak:

https://www.bbc.com/news/explainers-63635185

Thresholds have been frozen, inflation is roaring on.

above £12,571 - 32% (20% + 12% for ‘National Insurance’, i.e. the NHS)
above £50,270 - 42% (40% + 2% for NI)
above £125,140 - 47% (45% + 2% for NI)

“Once you earn over £100,000 a year, you start losing your tax-free personal allowance, which means you have to pay income tax at 40% on some of the first £12,570 of your earnings.”

There’s also council tax (property tax) and Value-Added Tax.

And that’s under a ‘Conservative’ government.

Next up, Labour?

Watching recent Brit Box tv shows (fiction)and judging by the numbers they throw around and the way the players regard relatively low sums I’d say they’re dead broke and have been for a long time. Antiques Roadshow reinforces this impression. Again and again a thousand pounds is regarded as a wind fall and five grand practically has them fainting.

“That’s going to be us before too long”

What do you mean before long? We are already there. I’m on the Big Island in Hawaii. Saw some Mexicans at a roadside stand selling tamales. How did they get here?

Same reason millions of Americans are so broke. It’s by design of the leaders of both nations.

“a life marked by poor living conditions, disease and addiction”

Addiction is generally an expensive, self-induced problem.

As for disease, NHS treatment is free at the point of care.

As for “poor living conditions”, people waiting at Calais would like them very much.
