Which state will report power shortages first? Those that are caused by the high heat warnings over the next month?

$5000 Quatloos on California. By the 25 of July for another 50000.

Right after CA and TX, I’m going to say New Mexico. Even though we had wonderful power generation in the past that made use of readily available coal and natural gas, we now get to play keep up with CA and TX for solar and wind. Why, just last week, La Gobernadora mandated that 43% of all new cars (and 20% of all new trucks) sold in Nuevo Meheeco by 2027 will be electric. On the same day, we were being asked by the powers that be to turn our thermostats to 78 during the day, 82 at night, and 86 if you were away to help the grid with the coming heatwave this last week and next few weeks.

It is a national shame that Texas is a leading candidate. And the Republican party did it. They brought in ERCOT to monetize and bring the managerial centralization mentality to what had been a vibrant closed energy grid.
It staffed with women from Michigan, German enviro-nuts, etc.
They they closed coal plants as fast as they could to embrace the T.Boone Pickens windmill and solar scams. They loved those tax breaks and put those eyesores up everywhere.

And now, when it’s hot, Texas cannot run air conditioners. When it’s cold they freeze in the dark.

Embarrassing.

>> But Texas has no excuse.

I’m dismayed to admit that you are right.

We have reasons aplenty... but no excuse!

Notice more people coming to America, fewer power plants being build and more power plants being closed but it’s Global Warming that’s the issue 🧐

Those states on the national grid all steal power from the others, based on market price. So having no energy generation is not a problem, because you just buy it from all the other states.

The problem comes down to transportability and what state has the resources to out bid the other states. That is first not California, and California.

Texas is on its own. However, it’s not possible for their electricity to be bought away from Texas, so it all stays and it’s all on them to create.

For the life of me, I don’t understand why all the other states allow some states to connect to their grid, when a state can’t meet its generation needs 99+% of the time, on its own.

Why do I want California buying my monopoly’s energy when I am the one paying for the plant?

Texas experienced more power outages than any other state over the past 20 years, report says..

Texas is a big state. Where I live in East Texas, we have yet to have any brownouts or deliberate power shortages. It didn't even happen during the "big freeze" two years ago. A bad storm will come through every now and then and knock out power, but it will usually be back on once they repair the damage.

I'm at a loss to understand your remarks. Life long Texan in my seventh decade and have always had air conditioning when its been hot and heat when its been cold. Always. All of my very large and extended family in central and south Texas likewise. None of my many friends and acquaintances also.

I'd like to know what you are basing your words on.

What part of Texas do you live in? Or, do you? It's been triple digits here for many days, and I'm having no trouble running the A/C.

The last few years there have been constant threats, warning not to charge electric cars, badgering, requests and smart meters to shut off air conditioning in the heat. The freeze out of 2021 killed 246 people.

When I was growing up, in the Reddy Kilowatt days and electric companies and co-ops with no central control, the power -never- failed unless a storm took the lines down.

But you seem satisfied with ERCOT and windmills and zero reserve capacity.

Everybody in Texas is watching this graph on a daily basis. It’s shown everyday on the local news shows. If ERCOT blows this it could be the one thing to cause Abbott to get tossed out of office.

Something is very wrong when a third of your electricity comes from such an unreliable source.

Here in Florida, Florida Power and Light seems to want to follow in your footsteps. They’re pushing solar like crazy (FL’s main source is natural gas). Too bad they bought out my utility (Gulf Power).

Um-m-m ... you are talking about Germany of course, not Texas. While Texas’ excess capacity is not large, it is adequate.

I do agree that ERCOT’s love affair with windmills needs to be ended and a few more nukes started up.

Could very well be Texas.

Agreed. The state has been underperforming in the area of energy.

That's because ERCOT has been focusing more on ESG scores and DIE than actual power generation.

Windmills are a waste of time, money and land.
