NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — A teenage mother is under arrest after she put what she thought was cocaine in her baby’s bottle, but was actually fentanyl, and the baby died, Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said Wednesday.
Deputies were called to Deerfield Country Club Road in Callahan on Monday, June 26 about a 9-month-old baby boy who was not breathing and had no pulse, Leeper said.

What they did was novel.
They had the only ‘approved’ drug incinerator in NE Florida, and all confiscated drugs were sent to them from all adjacent counties. They would have a big show with media and burn some drugs, then when they left they didn’t burn ALL the drugs, they sold them on the street.
What got them caught was the deputy was living large, way beyond his means, big new brick home, boats, new cars and trucks, etc.
Then some other LEOs got suspicious................

Yeah, usually parents are desperate to get their babies to go to sleep, not trying to keep them up all night long. Seems strange.
The only thing I can fathom is that the kid may have been teething, and cocaine is a local anaesthetic, so if they were rubbing it on the kids’ gums maybe I could see their motivation. But in the bottle? I can’t see a point.

I’m not exactly up on the effects of all the illegal drugs, but I’ve always heard that cocaine was a amphetamine and kept a person awake, not put them to sleep. Also, it’s pretty much a given that you DO NOT GIVE CHILDREN DRUGS!
This poor child had no chance given the gene pool from which it was produced. May it rest in our Heavenly Father’s arms and be delighted with it’s new home.

One of our previous Okaloosa County Sheriffs was arrested in Las Vegas and his secretary charged as an accomplice for embezzlement.

Yes coke is a stimulant, I can attest to that from my younger days......one comment said the coke story is a smoke screen hide the fact she was giving the baby fentynl to make it sleep......sounds plausible to me.
With cocaine the kid would be crawling around the ceiling.

Yes we like Leeper. A few years ago a criminal broke into a home and was blasted by the owner. Evidence indicated that when confronted he may have tried to leave before shots fired. When interviewed by a lib reporter she wanted to know if the sheriff planned to bring charges. Leeper said what the criminals have to realize here is almost all residents are armed. If you break into a residence you will probably be shot. Next question?
