A lonely California man has been left grieving after his cat was mauled to death by a pit bull which overpowered its owners - who then fled the grisly scene.

Tootie Pootie's devastated owner Chris Fowler said the ordeal was traumatizing - and is now demanding justice after the nine-year-old cat was ravaged by a dog on Magliocco Drive in San Jose.

Fowler let his cat out of his apartment to get some fresh air on Saturday afternoon when a man, girl, and large dog approached her on the street.

Footage showed the dog leap forward and overpower the girl who was holding its leash.

Fowler told KRON: 'I have no family. She’s been through some of the roughest parts of my life and meant the world to me.

'She was my everything. She was all I had. It’s traumatizing.

'She was so sweet and innocent. It is unfair the way she died. I miss her.'

The dog, believed to be a pit bull, charged at Tootie Pootie and attacked her.

Neither dog owner was able to free Tootie Pootie from their dog's jaws...

Fowler told KRON4: 'The dog overpowered the daughter and my cat was viciously attacked.

'I was also bit in the process of trying to pry my animal out of the dog's jaws.

Speaking about the dog walker, Fowler said: 'He said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry.’ Sorry doesn’t cut it. I want the owner of the pit bull to be held accountable and responsible for his animal’s action.'

He said that they fled the scene.

Tootie Pootie was rushed to a veterinary clinic. The feline was suffering from serious internal bleeding and broken bones from the ordeal...

Fowler said that the cat was humanly euthanized at Veterinary Emergency Group...

Good thing. It’s also dead now. I don’t let any of my pets outside unattended. My pets are currently alive.

If lonely Bay Area man wants justice, he will have to get it for himself — police and courts will do absolutely nothing. The handlers don’t look like people who walked the beast very far. Show the security pics around and neighbors will recognize the dog — they are probably terrified of it.

And given a chance, they’d be out the door.

I’ve lost plenty of cats and losing none of those was funny.

However, absurd behavior can be amusing. Constarntly getting cats, letting them go outside to be attacked by wild animals is a good example of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

All you can do is shake your head.

Ours would be, too. Our female actually DID get out once, a few months ago. We didn’t know it for about an hour. The doorbell rang, and a neighbor had her-
“Is this your cat?” Luckily, she had her collar and name tag.
Gotta watch her like a hawk.

We got a new cat one time, and tried to do the requisite three days inside for it to adjust to the new home. Came home on day two and he was sitting on the front step, waiting. Near as I could figure, he jumped out a second story window, onto the neighbors roof.

A friend used to get bent out of shape when one of his cats sat on the subwoofer. Then he’d get distracted by something...usually cooking...and the cat would put its feet on the subwoofer and watch him. He’d stop when he thought he’d made his point, I guess.

I have to go out as armed escort against coyotes when we let the dog and recently late (old age) cat out into the yard.
