A lonely California man has been left grieving after his cat was mauled to death by a pit bull which overpowered its owners - who then fled the grisly scene.
Tootie Pootie's devastated owner Chris Fowler said the ordeal was traumatizing - and is now demanding justice after the nine-year-old cat was ravaged by a dog on Magliocco Drive in San Jose.
Fowler let his cat out of his apartment to get some fresh air on Saturday afternoon when a man, girl, and large dog approached her on the street.
Footage showed the dog leap forward and overpower the girl who was holding its leash.
Fowler told KRON: 'I have no family. She’s been through some of the roughest parts of my life and meant the world to me.
'She was my everything. She was all I had. It’s traumatizing.
'She was so sweet and innocent. It is unfair the way she died. I miss her.'
The dog, believed to be a pit bull, charged at Tootie Pootie and attacked her.
Neither dog owner was able to free Tootie Pootie from their dog's jaws...
Fowler told KRON4: 'The dog overpowered the daughter and my cat was viciously attacked.
'I was also bit in the process of trying to pry my animal out of the dog's jaws.
Speaking about the dog walker, Fowler said: 'He said, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry.’ Sorry doesn’t cut it. I want the owner of the pit bull to be held accountable and responsible for his animal’s action.'
He said that they fled the scene.
Tootie Pootie was rushed to a veterinary clinic. The feline was suffering from serious internal bleeding and broken bones from the ordeal...
Fowler said that the cat was humanly euthanized at Veterinary Emergency Group...

pitbull owners are scum
Nine years old is not old for a cat. She had many years left had the stupid pit owners had half a brain. We’ve had several cats live 19 to 24 years. We loved them and they loved us back.
Dogs have a prey drive. It happens with Huskies, German Shepherds, Dobermans, Rottweilers, and Chihuahuas. Most of that is nature - Our American Eskimo Dog, which is a type of Spitz, went after small stuff like baby bunnies constantly. My mother-in law’s Doberman goes after adult rabbits and squirrels.
Unfortunately, this type of thing happens. I wouldn’t wish losing a pet this way on anyone, but the unfortunate truth is that this is way more common than you think, and it is not breed-specific. You just hear about Pits because people have a general fear of them, as it was with German Shepherds during the second world war (true, according to someone on my dialysis shift) and Rottweilers and Dobermans in the ‘90’s.
“Fowler let his cat out of his apartment to get some fresh air...”
I will never understand cat owners who let their cat out onto the street. What else do they expect.
Clearly more dog than she can handle. I’ve seen kids dragged by big dogs.
I don’t care much for cats, but that cat looks very sweet. Sad. Pit owners should serve a mandatory 1 year jail sentence if their dog kills another animal unprovoked. 10 years if a human is attacked. 20 if a human is killed. This crap would end in a hurry.
Indoor-only cats are insane.
just another loveable pitbull committing a heinous act on the defenseless. Today a kitten, tomorrow a small child, what’s the big deal? It’s not the pit’s fault. And certainly not the owner’s fault. Pits and their owners are never at fault. Something the cat/child did ‘spooked’ the dog so it’s the victim’s fault. Don’t be a hater! /s
The owner was charged with a crime. But the reporters apparently lost interest in the story. I never did learn whether he was convicted, or what was his sentence.
Dogs...cats....who knew?
Some dogs are troublesome, and can be aggressive. All pit bulls are troublesome, and sooner or later they WILL be aggressive, wildly aggressive.
I don’t actually blame the dog. It’s a DNA thing, much like with a wolf it’s a DNA thing. This might excuse the dog. But in no way does it excuse the owner. You bring a wolf into a neighborhood, and you are sick trash. You bring a pit bull into a neighborhood, and you are sick trash.
Side story: I often walk a trail that winds past many houses. It’s a nice way to spend a day. Well, one of the home owners decided to buy a pit bull. It’s chained up in his back yard, and it lunges at anyone who walks by on the trail. That’s when I started to carry a revolver.
The cat was on its owner’s property.
I will never understand why dog owners get dogs and then don’t control them while they are taking them around the neighborhood to crap and piss on other people’s property.
“Breed-of-peace” ping.
The vast majority are. The others are just incredibly naive or stupid.
You folks are missing something. Pit bulls are owned by poorer people-mostly. Nothing to lose. On this sidewalk you’re gonna get off. That’s what u get for being above me.
Put them all to sleep or let them maul once?
Last exclusively indoor cat I knew of turned on the wife of the couple that owned it. She was a nutty lib, so it figured. They had to get rid of it.

The last straw for the poor cat was when the couple decided they were going to TRANSGENDER THE CAT.
Wouldn't a shotgun be safer? With a revolver, you might only get one shot (and miss) before the pit bull is on you.
