Putin is cannibalizing Russia's economy as war in Ukraine derails financial order, Yale researchers say

Those measures have contributed to the flight of millionaires and everyday workers, who have left the country to look for better opportunities, significantly hurting the nation's output and productivity. And though Putin has made a show of Russia's economic strength, his actions have only bought Russia more time, researchers warned.

"That resilience is nothing but a Potemkin façade, sustained not through genuine economic productivity but rather through shaking down the entire country for pennies to direct towards war," Sonnenfeld and Tian said. "Putin can continue to sustain his invasion of Ukraine this way, but in doing so, continues to rip off his own people. In avoiding outright economic collapse by mortgaging Russia's future, he grows more unloved by his people and is thus increasingly weakened.

We have built a great economy - OnlyFans, McDonalds, and usury so vast it boggles the mind.

Russia has banned those things and is booming.

Our manufacturing capacity is not what it was back then. We are too high tech. Ukraine is using a lot of Soviet era tech. If we want to continue to supply Ukraine, we need to get our $#it together. In the long run, Russia will win because it’s easier to manufacture their war materials in the factories. With an emphasis on quantity rather than quality.

But it is still doubtful they would have lost. It would have just cost way more lives and taken longer. But WWII victory was simply never in the cards for the nazis unless they could negotiate a separate truce with the Brits.
And for Soviet lend lease, it isn’t as sexy, but food from America is what kept them in the fight more than anything else. Hormel canned meat by the shipload.

Have the “Yale Researchers” gotten Biden to pay off their Stupident Loans with your money yet?

Funny and true. Only things those ivy leaguers study is how to pervert what’s in their pants.

*That’s an astonishing graphic. I had no idea that the amount of materiel we sent to the Soviets in WW II was that huge. They helped defeat Nazism, but we got communism and the Cold War as a result.*

WE supported China in WW2. 5 years later they fought us in Korea.

Economic warfare doesn’t work until and if it does. In WWI, the British blockade of Germany slowly starved that country. After years of draconian rationing, people started dying because of famine and exhaustion and the diseases these bring on. Perhaps 5 to 800,000. This was a big reason why support for the war collapsed.

Now, let’s be realistic. Russia is in nowhere as bad shape as Germany toward the end of WWI. This war is going to end in some kind of stalemate (like the Korean War ended), either at the current front lines or where the front lines might be moved in the next few months or at most a year.

The Ukrainians want an opportunity to regain their territory, and are willing to do the fighting, but they would have no chance without material support from the west. Nor could they hold whatever are the front lines without U.S. and other troops backing up their troops. Russia will attack again. That’s what Russia does. So, the Ukrainians have to recognize this has to be a joint decision.

The border between the west and Russia will be like the border between North and South Korea. (BTW, South Korea isn’t part of NATO.) It will be an armed border until such time, if ever, that Russia figures out that invading other countries isn’t an option. Being realistic about that, that won’t happen any time soon.

If history has taught us anything, it’s that one baddie always rises up to replace the previous baddie, and it’s usually the guy who helped you to get rid of the previous baddie.

No, throughout human history, a large military machine is nothing but an expense, a money suck, and does not grow an economy... with two immoral exceptions. That you sell weapons all around the world and foment wars to grow the business. (This was the main cash cow for the USSR, and for us today)
And second, that you use that military to conquer new lands and resources to enrich yourself.

If you set up a lathe and start making rifles, if you fill your closet with them you are doing nothing but spending money. They won’t make you money unless you can find someone to sell them to, or you use them to go take things from others. You might use them to protect your things from theft, but that only stops a loss, it doesn’t make you money.

Historically a huge military is a menace to your liberty and your treasury.

Sometimes you have no choice like Israel and you have to defend your country. Not everyone is like Canada.

Yes it is.

“Our manufacturing capacity is not what it was back then. We are too high tech.”

There is no way we could match our output from WWII. 1200 warships and 99 carriers. 86,000 tanks, 300,000 airplanes... including a new B-24 every 55 minutes. All in about 4 years.
And it isn’t just war factories. We don’t make steel, lumber, and our betters are stopping food production every way they can.
Worst of all, the workforce is lazy and simply would not participate.

It’s amazing that a population of less than half of today did that and with twice the population I doubt we could do 10% of that today.

“With an emphasis on quantity rather than quality.”

OMG, I’m going to REPORT YOU for going against the Neocon philosophy. The NERVE of saying that quantity has its own quality is simply NOT ALLOWED here, as it makes sense (since Russians think the same), and is why we’re getting our asses kicked.

Now, please, APOLOGIZE!!!
