Sometimes, certain things can become very annoying. And here is one, that likely only male members of FR might think of and surely (or at least very, VERY hopefully!) only our guys have experienced:
Sweatpants / running pants / jogging pants can be handy and quite comfy, sweatpants in cool weather especially so. BUT, the darn things almost never have some sort of fly, as in a zippered or buttoned or "snapped" (securely!) fly. This can be a bit of a, well, "pain", or at least an inconvenience, especially if the waist is a bit tight, and, well, I won't get into specifics about the "ambience" of one's surrounding environment / situation. Maybe there's poison ivy underfoot everywhere off the trail. (Yes, ladies, you don't have much alternative, but, point is, men do.)
SO... It occurred to me to do a search for "Why don't men's jogging pants have a zippered fly?" A couple major search engines and a couple minor search platforms turned up nothing useful. One can substitute sweatpants or jogging pants and turn up only the same lack of info.
I bought a pair of cheap cargoes without looking at them closely or trying them on.......turns out it has no fly and you have to untie it and drop trou to pee. Whose silly idea was that?
Today's search engines seem to assume you want the most popular similar results, despite what you specify.
But that’s not the point. MOST don’t, virtually none do if your budget is Wally World or similar, and so my question was why most don’t. I suppose it saves the manufacturer a few cents...
WELL... That seems to be a common theme / answer, but:
1) ALMOST invariably, if I buy them that loose, they are way too long for me. I guess my legs are a bit shorter than average, and they definitely seem to be getting shorter as I get old! Looked at it another way, while I’m hardly obese, the lower half of my body IS a bit on the stocky side, mostly (but not all) muscle and a bit thick boned, it seems.
(I haven’t figured out what guys considerably thicker than I do, and there are PLENTY of them, but, then, I don’t see a lot of actually heavy guys in this type garb - probably cause they can’t find it to fit them! Which is funny - those in most need of sweatpants / joggers find few are made for them!)
2) If they ARE that loose, they tend to “work down” on my waist a bit, which I really dislike...
3) The whole “doing my business” becomes uncomfortable. Maybe my “hose” is placed lower than average? Bwahahaha!
Yeah, and there are plenty pants now with fake flys...
Guys’ sleepwear, even inexpensive, with an elastic band @ the waist, usually have fly’s though. This stuff (even in China) is mostly automated - the cost can’t be all that much, but I suppose a few pennies is a factor...
But all this misses my point - why don’t the search engines turn this up? When they do have plenty of content on inane subjects that pop up seemingly at random such as: “Is Paul McCartney really a jerk?” (Apparently NOT, by most accounts.)
;-)
That’s funny. I was wondering the same thing last week.
I agree. It makes things a bit inconvenient, particularly in public restrooms or in the woods.
I’ll bet the transexuals are going to demand that all men’s clothes be made without a fly because it’s assuming all men have a penis.
Took me one try to find sweat pants with front zippers on Amazon. Ditto jogging pants.
Well, look, I didn’t know what your POINT was, you just asked, and I found something for you. You said nothing about cost.
By the way, you’re welcome.
