We told you it was looking bad for Indy's new feminist romp...
...and boy oh boy were we right. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny did a belly flop from 10,000 feet this weekend as the Mouse House's LucasFilm killed the last piece of intellectual property that it hadn't yet destroyed.
The movie only made $130 million total on opening weekend (a holiday weekend, no less!). That's $60 million domestically and $70 million internationally against a budget of more than $300 million (not including marketing).
That is less than half of the $272 million that the subpar Kingdom of the Crystal Skull pulled in back in 2008!!
How is it that all of us knew this movie was gonna flame out faster than the human sacrifices in the Temple of Doom but Kathleen Kennedy and the "Force is Female" Disney crew thought it was gonna be a record ending to a beloved franchise? Did they really think that bringing back the woke fembot from Disney's Han Solo movie was going to sell tickets??
And after watching Harrison Ford's Han Solo be turned into a sad failure of a man, did they think we'd run to the theater to watch Ford's Indiana Jones be turned into a sad failure of a man??
I'll leave you with this hilarious analysis of this box-office flop that's 1,000% more entertaining than anything Kathleen Kennedy's train-wreck-of-a-studio could make!
Do people go to movies as much nowadays, as in the past?
That might help explain why total ticket sales have been sluggish for this movie.
The reviews haven’t helped.
How many people will just wait for it to go to a streaming service or cable channel?
Stop trying to make Phoebe Waller Bridge a thing!
We haven’t been to a theater in years...................
Good observation!
“Do people go to movies as much nowadays, as in the past?”
Probably not, but when you do go they cram weirdo values down your throat. I went to see “Fast X” recently and before the previews they had a show on onscreen which kept going on and on and on about “Pride” month.
My old friend and I used to go to the matinee every other Wednesday afternoon. With 6 movies showing, we had a good choice of seeing something interesting. That was before Covid. How my world has changed since then. Joe has passed on, and somehow so did Hollywood. I look at the shows each Wednesday to see what Joe and I would have watched ... there is NOTHING we would have spent the money on showing these days. I guess we would be honing our fishing skills today. R.I.P. Joe, I know ONE thing you aren’t missing!
I’ll admit that one thing that draws me to the movie is if John Williams made the music. No stereo system I have at home compares that what’s at the theater. And Williams made the score for this one, so I’ll probably see it in the theatre while I can still attend a movie with his music at the theatre.
Seems like all Hollywood wants to do is shove their immorality in our faces.
That is not a good business model......................
Nerdrotic & the Fandom Menace crew are the best thing going.
That old boy must be in his 90’s by now, but you are correct his scores are amazing.
The latest Top Gun movie made over a billion dollars.
The last Spider-Man movie made millions
People will go to the movies IF it is entertaining. They won’t see woke garbage.
But woke garbage is what most of the studios put out now.
If the hated, fine actor Jim Caviezel is in it, I want to see it.
F35’s fly right over my house every day.
And they are the LOUDEST AIRCRAFT I HAVE EVER HEARD..............
Top Gun: Maverick only earned $130M on opening weekend, but went on to full blockbuster status as positive reviews started to spread. I think a lot of people wait for reviews now rather than rush out to see (or stream) a new movie. IJ 5 reviews seem to range from "It was horrible" to "it wasn't THAT bad" to "It was good because 1. Ford, 2. Nostalgia, 3. It wasn't Crystal Skull".
Some movies do well despite ridiculous woke plots and themes. The recent Avatar sequel has grossed $2.3B globally. Everyone had to know going in that it would be recycled trash from the original.
So far Disney has ruined Star Wars, Little Mermaid, Toy Story, Indiana Jones and the entire Marvel Comic genre.................I’m sure there are others I’m not aware of.............
Disney has allowed Kathleen Kennedy to destroy another franchise.
Most of this movie, like all the previous Indiana Jones movie is full of action... Harrison Ford isn’t in the action scenes... His double is. 80 year old guys don’t gallop around on horseback or jump... At all.
So the only scenes where he is actually on film, are the ones where he isn’t moving.
