So I’m guess Russia will take Kiev at roughly the same time Ukraine will take Moscow.

That's the gist of it. And Putin within days of dying of cancer or being forced from office in a coup has also been going on for all of this time, too, so may as well throw in that he and Zelensky will swap Presidencies.

Russia’s goal never was to take Kiev.

Their goal just like in 2014 when they took the Crimea, was to go after ethnic areas they can relatively easily hold onto in the long run.

They shot towards Kiev early on because that forced the Ukrainians to pull forces from the areas they actually want to take and hold. Ukraine also knew what the Russians will go for. The so-called great Ukrainian counter offensive was the Russians withdrawing.

It’s pretty much just a war of attrition at this point with the lines fairly much drawn.
