When Disney collapses, he should buy the theme parks and rename them LibertyLand. And no more “Sex Pervert Days” or tranny cast members.

“and an accompanying museum and theme park”

I’m thinking the flag pole is a secondary concern.

I wonder how the physics would work with a flag that big.

Would the flag be too heavy to fly? If it did fly, would it tear easily?

It's way the hell down east as you can see from this map. Also, Canada sank beneath the waves, which is a good thing.

And it's not like you're going to despoil any scenic vistas by hoisting a giant flag. Quite the opposite.

I say, plant the pole!

If a large tree in high winds can crash over, then a giant flagpole with a giant flag can do the same. Tourist Trap with dangerous flagpole.

I think he’s letting his ego run away with him.

This is a horrible thing to see, even if it’s only in the proposal stage.

It can’t be any worse than the giant head that was erected in Jersey City.

Article says:

“among the last pristine wildernesses on the East Coast”

Lol.

The writer has no clue about what rural areas are like in that part of the country. Hopefully they stay stupid in their big city.

Mr. Worcester, if you want to do something to truly help Maine, work to get RCV repealed.

Throw your weight behind that.

Get that done first.

At that height, the winds will destroy a flag in days and the cost of replacements at that rate will doom the project to failure. Or should...if anyone involved was thinking ahead.

The flagpole with a history museum is a nice idea. (though he could stop at 1,000 ft & still be the tallest)
The rest of the plans make it sound like Disney or something and way over the top.

Misleading title. It is a plan to build a billion-dollar complex that includes the world’s tallest flagpole.

Actually if he's gonna subject the American flag to winds above 73mph or any severe weather he's desecrating the flag. Also how is he going to light the flag at night? Same deal, it's bad form to allow darkness to fall upon the American flag.

Maybe someone needs to try to talk with him.

I think I'd visit. Sounds fascinating.

The $1 billion scheme would include history museums telling the country's story through veterans' eyes, plus a 4,000-seat auditorium, restaurants and monument walls with the name of every deceased veteran dating to the Revolution - 24 million names.

Doak, an army veteran, knows Morrill Worcester as a humble but determined man.

And though Worcester never served in the military, no one questions his patriotism.

Each week, Worcester stands alongside U.S. 1 waving flags alongside a group of residents, even in blizzards and rain.

Doak describes his friend as a visionary.

He pointed out that people thought Walt Disney World, built in a Florida swampland, was a crazy idea, and Mount Rushmore was outlandish. Both are now treasured.

‘I’m gonna tell you right now, he’s gonna build that flagpole,’ said Doak.

‘So why shouldn’t it be Columbia Falls?’
