Reenactors are marking the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, a turning point in the Civil War.

Hundreds of spectators are watching history come alive at the Daniel Lady Farm.

The annual battle reenactment has brought together 2,000 Union and Confederate reenactors for the three-day event.

Some of them are in their 70s and 80s and have been taking part for forty years or longer.

The history buffs aren't just from the U.S. News 8 spoke to a man about why he came from Canada.

"As a Canadian, there were hundreds if not thousands of what are now Canadians who fought and died here. It's part of our history as much as it is America," Larry Burden said

“started at 4: 30 PM. 4 Hours later there were 20,000 Casualties!!”

A dark sad fact. The horrific price that was paid and continues to be paid for slavery is an ongoing tragedy. I wish every boat was sunk before it reached Africa.

Oh, that is good.

Clearly they are reenacting the Battle of the Somme. The authenticity is chilling!

I talked with someone.

One body will contaminate a 60’ radius of water

At that time, Gettysburg had 2400 people

Between 46000 and 51000 died there.

Crews can clear about 20 men per hour.

Do the math on how long clearing those dead would have taken. Then, there’s the horses, limbs, water to clean, hospitals…

I imagine the morphine ran out.

Repeat foe Antietam, Vicksburg, the Wilderness.

And the stench.

Pickets Charge was 160:years ago. About now.

Everyone keeps worrying that I’m lonely.
I’m a self contained hermit/loner and always have been.
When my dog leaves me, then I’ll be lonely.
Might not survive that.
He is currently my tether to this wretched world.

I know you’re strong
And right minded

Dogs can be replaced you know that even though it’s difficult

I’ve outlived around a dozen fine four legged lads

You should anticipate this and get a younger one

A but cruel in my view. I am convinced an old dog knows the young one is to replace him. I think you stay with your furry friend and when they pass mourn and then replace.
