United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby apologized Friday for hopping on a private plane to get out of the New York area earlier this week while thousands of United passengers were stranded because the airline canceled so many flights.
“Taking a private jet was the wrong decision because it was insensitive to our customers who were waiting to get home,” Kirby said in a statement issued by the airline. “I sincerely apologize to our customers and our team members who have been working around-the-clock for several days — often through severe weather — to take care of our customers.”
Kirby concluded by promising “to better demonstrate my respect for the dedication of our team members and the loyalty of our customers.”

Exactly.
I do not see how the two incidents are related. So what he flew out on a private aircraft? He IS a CEO and can do what he wants. How does him staying grounded help the grounded flights?
Choose your cruise line carefully.
The weather at the terminus was deadly.
Unions representing the airline’s pilots and flight attendants have joined in the criticism, accusing United management of poor planning, a lack of crew schedulers, and operating too many flights.
I guess the union folks must be using new math logic.
If you operate a whole bunch of flights, and cancel a lot of them, it is worse than operating fewer flights, and cancelling a lot of them.
He should have kicked one of the paying passengers off of a commercial flight instead.
“The peasants are revolting!”

His job is to have an airline that leaves on time and doesn’t cancel flights. That’s what he needs to pay attention to. It’s poor form for him to jump on a private jet when the passengers he supposedly took money for him to take places get stranded. He needs to be addressing that somehow.

Storms come through and flights get behind schedule....eventually, they have to cancel the remainder of the day.
I got stuck at JFK about 15 years ago (2 PM arrival from Germany). Some massive storm in the morning triggered all flights for remainder of day to be cancelled. Airline was not capable of handling this many cancellations. They warned me that I might be stuck for four days...waiting for another flight.
Eventually, they rigged up a flight the next day out of thin air, and it was to take 200 passengers to five different cities down the coast. So to reach Atlanta, I spent nine hours on this make-up flight the next day. For my discomfort...they gave me a $150 voucher (didn’t even cover the hotel costs).
This is the same loser airline that wants 50% of its pilots to be either minorities or women.
Good points.
Canceled flights fear not it’s all for the good of climate change.
