United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby apologized Friday for hopping on a private plane to get out of the New York area earlier this week while thousands of United passengers were stranded because the airline canceled so many flights.
“Taking a private jet was the wrong decision because it was insensitive to our customers who were waiting to get home,” Kirby said in a statement issued by the airline. “I sincerely apologize to our customers and our team members who have been working around-the-clock for several days — often through severe weather — to take care of our customers.”
Kirby concluded by promising “to better demonstrate my respect for the dedication of our team members and the loyalty of our customers.”

All people are created equal, just some are more equal than others.
Why shouldn’t he? He should take a rocket ship if he can afford it.
Forgiveness is easier than permission.
The elitists don’t care, will live like they want and then think a vapid, insincere “apology” absolves them.
What hypocrites!
Actually the crime isn’t taking a company plane to get where you need to go. The crime is running an airline that treats its customers like dirt when inevitable problems arise and not having a plan B. Flight delays, cancellations and weather happen. You should be better able to deal with it and not cause a panic every time it happens.
Exactly. He should do his JOB. Whatever it takes. He gets paid enough for it.
WHY did the airline cancel flights though?
Anyone else is free to charter a plane as well.
Bad optics
I mean if it was severe weather wasn’t the CEO taking his own chances. How can one fault him for that? He and the pilot agreed to this but he did not subject the passengers to this risk.
So, he has the freedom to travel. Anyone could have chartered something private if they wanted to pay, no?
If it’s a crime to treat your customers like dirt (I think it is just stupid and immoral, not a crime)
then customers can respond by not buying with that airline anymore. There are competitors.
Maybe go visit the Titanic?
Including taking people literally when they are speaking figuratively.
I actually don’t have a problem with this. Obviously it’s a PR problem, but not actually wrong.
So what?
Translation: you found out. I’ll make out I’m sorry and some of you will believe it.
