That is very true of Pyrenees.

They are very intelligent which is what you want because they need to be able to solve problems when you aren’t there. I never had to teach them to protect the goats (or me), or walk the fence line at night. They instinctively form a “wall” between new visitors and the goats, for example, but relax when they see I am comfortable with a visitor. The other day they moved the herd away from a 3 year old daughter of a friend - I think they couldn’t read her intentions and she was just running around the goats.

My experience is they will let you train them if it is something they want to do. If not, it is harder. And everything is kind of on their terms. They might sit for me but it might take them a minute to decide if that’s what they want to do. At night they go in their stall and I hand them a treat on the way in. But they only do it for me, no one else.
