Copied from video description:
Allen, Texas — On May 6, 2023, an Allen Police Officer speaking to a mother and her two kids heard off more than 10 gunshots in the distance, at the Allen Premium Outlets mall. The officer calls in the shots fired over the radio and another round of gunfire is heard. The officer grabs his weapon and tells shoppers to get down. The officer runs across the outlet mall for approximately two-to-three minutes, and multiple rounds of gunfire are heard throughout this time. The video was edited by the department to blur out the faces of civilians and victims, and some language was removed. In it, gunshots ring out and the officer is heard saying, "Shots fired. Shots fired. We got people running." He grabs his gun, yells for people to "Get moving!" and heads toward the gunfire.
About four minutes into the footage, the officer raises his weapon and shoots at gunman, identified as 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia. After he fires several more times, it's eerily quiet for the first time since the chaotic footage began. "Shots fired by police. I got him down!" The officer shoots two more times, and screams, "Drop the gun!" Little more than five minutes after the footage began, the officer had fatally shot Garcia. Another officer approaches Garcia's body and the officer who ended the mass shooting, says, "We got him bro... we got him." Garcia murdered 8 people and wounded another 7 people when he went on his deadly rampage. On June 26, The Texas Rangers and the Collin County District Attorney’s Office presented the evidence to the grand jury. After reviewing the evidence, they ruled the use of force was justified under Texas law.
As far as this criminal is concerned, they could have unloaded 100x the ammo, and it would still have been justified in my mind.
Was the Mall a Gun Free Zone?
A dark day in my city’s (recent) history. Glad this officer was on scene already ... could’ve been a lot worse.
That was a real heart pounder.
That single police officer immediately ran towards the sound of gunfire. All honor to him.
Contrast his behavior with that of the Parkland school deputy, or with that of the entire Uvalde police department.
Another tan white supremacist…
I don’t think I heard any burst from the gunman of more than 7 shots with 20 second intervals in between. Still the pantywaists are throwing their high capacity magazine tantrum again.
EC
Yes as it is a Simon mall. Here are the Simon policies: https://www.simon.com/legal/code-of-conduct
Though that said, as it’s an outdoor mall and from what others have said it isn’t actually posted legally/properly for Texas law to actually bar guns from the property.
Incrementalism. It’s worked for them before - ban bits around the edges if you can’t ban the subject proper. It’s how we’re in the state we’re in right now.
Too bad too many people on our side don’t understand it and won’t use it to restore our rights - instead demanding it all and demanding it now. Historically that usually doesn’t work nearly as well as incrementalism.
That there is good police-work!
Maybe they should have called in a social services counselor instead?
Right democrats?
Kudos to that officer, he handled it like a pro.
Good for the cop but dang, he needs to get to the gym. I was trying to breath for him!
Maybe, but he ran a long way with at least 30 pounds of gear on him, (not counting the rifle and ammo). I’m sure a lot of his breathing had to do with the adrenaline circulating through his body.
Great scene!
Er, I didn’t post that...
He still had control over his breathing when he fired. He did a great job.
In addition to the other factors people have mentioned, it wasn’t exactly the coolest day in Texas either - not the peak of summer like now, but it had to be in the 80s and with a merciless sun beating on him... Another consideration is that he’s got no idea where the shooter is, so running blindly isn’t the greatest idea.
