Special Dispatch to the New- York Times.
HARRISBURGH, Saturday, June 27.
The Union forces have retired toward Mechanicsburgh, and the rebels are advancing slowly from Carlisle. Our regiments are engaged in throwing up rifle-pits.
A slight skirmish occurred yesterday at the Stone Tavern, near Walnut Bottom, in which we lost seven men prisoners.
Seven deserters came in to-day from near Mount Union.
The news from the direction of Gettysburgh is very exciting. The rebels occupy that place with 8,000 strong -- their pickets extending to within eight miles of Hanover.
It seems at prefect to be the intention of the enemy to attack the works on the west side of the Susquehanna, but appearances change almost homily. We are prepared to give him battle.
By order of Gen. Couch all the school-houses of the city are to be used as hospitals. If necessity requires, the churches will also be used. WHIT.
HARRISBURGH, Saturday, June 27.
Carlisle was occupied at about 10 o'clock this morning by the rebels.
At 12 o'clock they were three miles this side of Carlisle, and were still advancing.
Our cavalry force, which has been watching their movements, is gradually refining.
The enemy have a line of pickets extending from Carlisle to Gettysburgh. They are moving in this direction in three columns.
The authorities were in telegraphic communication with Hanover Junction at 12 o'clock. But the appearance of the enemy's column is hourly looked for.
What remains of the Government archives are now being packed up for shipment.
The Susquehanna is rapidly rising, and all the fords will be impassable.
HARRISBURGH, Saturday, June 27.
Gen. SMITH, commanding the troops on the opposite side of the river, considers his position impregnable.
There is not as much excitement here now as there was when the rebels first entered Hagerstown.
