A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday after allegedly opening fire during a dispute over a movie theater seat late Sunday, leaving one man dead.
Michael Tenorio, 52, was killed and the suspect, Enrique Padilla, 19, was injured at Century Rio theater near Jefferson and Interstate 25. The shooting, in theater 15, sent patrons fleeing from the large cineplex.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court, Tenorio and his wife, Trina Tenorio, arrived at the theater and purchased tickets for the 8:50 p.m. showing of “No Hard Feelings,” a rom-com staring Jennifer Lawrence.
The couple purchased seats 8 and 11 in Row F, and a theater employee advised the Tenorios to sit together and ask the two people in seats 9 and 10 to move down a seat, according to the complaint.
When Padilla and his date showed up to the theater, the young couple started arguing over the seats. Witnesses told police that the two couples were ultimately seated next to each other, but when the employee left the theater, Padilla threw an entire tub of popcorn into Trina Tenorio’s face, according to the complaint.
That’s when, according to witnesses, Tenorio said, “What the hell?” and pushed Padilla into the wall and shots rang out. The complaint says Padilla fled the theater after the shooting and was later found in some bushes outside. He had been shot in the stomach and was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital. A casing found in the bushes matched a casing in the movie theater, according to the complaint. Police didn’t say how they believe Padilla was shot.
A gun with a green laser attached to it was found in the bushes. Witnesses told police that they saw the green laser in the theater during the shooting.

With a little luck he has won a Darwin Award while still living.
Hopefully prison is going to be very hard time for him.

You do not survive a Darwin Award...
...unless you destroy your reproductive parts before you reproduce.
Think how awesome it was in the ‘60s. LOL!
Think about "stuffing your firearm back in your pants with a finger on the trigger."
And at a Rom-com, with Jennifer Lawrence, no less. What an ignominious way to go.
reports of gunfire in the theatre... not a gunshot... atleast two shots make gunfire... witnesses giving the report.
i will stick with my thesis.
police do not know how he was shot in the bushes... there was no gunshot there...
read the witness accounts. i did. do your own investigation and not leave it to those that would just accept the report on face value.
Makes the story even worse.
I think everyday now, how something like this could happen in an instant.
I was at a restaurant the other day.
Place is packed.
There were three seats left at the bar, all together.
There was one guy in front of us, in the waiting line.
The hostess seats the guy in the middle stool, with one empty seat on each side.
She comes back and says to us, “do you want a booth or bar?”
I said we’ll sit at the bar.
She said go ahead and “seat yourself.”
We go over there, and politely, I ask the guy if he could move over one seat so my girl friend and I could sit together.
The guy, a scruffy faced, meat loaf of a guy, with shorts on below the knees.
Says, “The hostess sat me here.”
I said, “I know, and I’m sorry to ask you to move.”
He doesn’t move.
I said, “You’re going to stay there?”
He doesn’t answer, looks straight ahead.
I said, “Honey, you sit on the right, and I’ll sit over here on the left.”
Then the asshat, says, “ok, I’ll move.”
Looking pissed off.
I said, “Thank you. I’ll buy you a drink.”
He says, “Not necessary.” and gets on his cell phone.
I’m thinking to myself, two or three years ago, when I was going thru a difficult time, I might have told the guy something to the effect, “So, you asshole POS you’re not going to move?”
But I was cool.
Had I said something to provoke the guy, who knows, he may have shot me.
This older guy, went out to the movies with his, wife, never thinking it was his last day on earth.
I’m noticing more and more in my little community here in Georgia and esp at the airport, people are not friendly. Young Black people esp, have a chip on their shoulder, young being teens to 40 years.
Fewer people let you in, when you’re trying to enter the street.
Life can be short if you are not prepared for violence to erupt.
