Shocking video footage shows a Michigan cop punching a teenager in the face while booking him onto a suburban Detroit jail — then grabbing him by the hair and slamming his face into the floor.
Warren police released the surveillance footage Tuesday while announcing that Officer Matthew Rodriguez, 48, had been suspended and charged with assault and willful neglect of duty, both misdemeanors.
Police Commissioner William Dwyer called it “sad and upsetting to every member of this department.”
“This is not what we do. This is not who we are,” he said, while praising two other officers for quickly reporting the disturbing attack.

I think the cop was actually Hispanic.
ping
This cop had to realize that the area was covered by surveillance cameras. And this was during booking, not during arrest. What the hell was the cop thinking?
White Hispanic.
“The video shows the perp saying something to the cop that he didn’t like. “
So what?
He obviously wasn’t. Whatever was going on there the officer allowed it to overcome professional conduct he should have in those situations.
Do I think there is more unsaid here? Yah probably, but I hope this doesn’t lead to more attacks on cops.
Don't know the details but cops usually run cover when a fellow cop misbehaves. I'm surprised that brother cops called out the brutality.
“Rodriguez pounces on him, picking him up horizontally by his pants and near his neck to throw him down on the floor, knocking over a computer monitor on the desk.”
They should give him a medal
“The booked teen — identified by the Detroit Free Press as Jaquwan Smith”
Jaquwan Yep Jaquwan dindo nuffin
I don’t know if Rodriguez considered himself white or not, but he’s white now.
It was on video and they all knew that. Not reporting it would have put the others under the ton of bricks that could fall.
They probably couldn’t cover it up, or they didn’t like this guy much.

Law Enforcement Officers
Not so much . . .
You are now called “Civilian”, no longer “Citizen”.
Even B movies use the phrase Citizen as a poke-in-the-eye.
GOOBERMINT groups need to take out their own trash.
Wow...
Jaquawn was arrested for carjacking and probably not the first time either.
In the 1980s, at a high school dance, my friend badly scraped the bumper and back panel of a car in a parking lot. He was a bad driver (and he was drinking) and hitting another car made him nervous - which made the problem worse and caused more damage
Car belonged to a cop who was there, I believe for event security.
The cop and his partner/friend pummeled my friend while the rest of us watched
After it was over, they realized what they had done, in front of witnesses, and let my friend go without payment for damage or DWI charge.
My friend felt it was a fair exchange (he would have had to deal with his own Dad afterwards), and told us to be quiet about it.
Well, some people have no impulse control and can’t stop to think “hey this is all going to get caught on camera” if someone triggers their sensitive wittle feewings.
Screening process for cops should probably screen for that. I imagine the military screens those people out pretty well by letting drill sergeants scream all kinds of abuse in their faces and then seeing which ones can’t take it without cracking.
Perp may have jacked a relative of the cop...
The police are not punishers.
They are suppose to arrest and detain for trial.
Giving the police approval to punish is a really dark path that leads to the fall of civilization. And right now it is on shaky ground as it is.
