HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC, Sunday, June 21.
For the Purpose of Contradicting all erroneous reports, and giving quiet to the public mind, the following facts are authorized to be stated:
There has been no engagement whatever up to this date, involving any portion of Gen. HOOKER's army except the cavalry. Cavalry skirmishes, fights and reconnoissances are taking place daily, with the advantage uniformly with our forces.
Two hundred and fifty prisoners have arrived at headquarters, taken within the last three days.
The alarm existing at the North during the past few days is utterly without cause. No enemy is on or near the old Bull Run battle-field, and the panic-stricken report of the appearance of HILL's rebel force via Dumfries, is equally false.
L.L. CROUNSE.
WASHINGTON, Sunday, June 21.
The report of a battle at Centreville between the National army and the rebel forces is without and foundation whatever in truth.
There is believed to be no infantry force of the enemy this side of the Bull Run Mountains.
WASHINGTON, Sunday, June 21.
Sixty prisoners were brought into the camp of the Army of the Potomac last night, from the vicinity of Aldie, among them a Lieutenant-Colonel. They were captured by our cavalry Friday, during a series of skirmishes on the Middleburgh road, beyond Aldie.
It is said that one of the newspaper correspondents was arrested yesterday and sent to the rear of the army, for transmitting contraband intelligence.
OUR SPECIAL ARMY CORRESPONDENCE.
HEADQUARTERS ARMY OF THE POTOMAC, Saturday, June 20, 1863.
Notwithstanding the indiscretions of certain sensational correspondents with this army, who find nothing to write unless it is something improper for communication, I still refrain from mentioning even where headquarters are located, and saying nothing of the dispositions of the various corps composing the army.

In 2025 are you finally going to quit posting this stuff?
So far Stuart has been doing his job of screening the ANV from Federal cavalry.
Hang all Dutchmen??? That Southern paper must hate the Dutch if they consider them lower than blacks. Is Dutchmen literally Dutch or would that include Germans?
The CSS Atlanta was another casemate ironclad. She ran aground engaging 2 monitors and was captured.
Pay no attention to that huge army walking towards Harrisburg. I think they are just looking for shoes. Nothing to see there.
This is a massive effort and I applaud HS for setting this up. As a person who was interested in the Civil War actions of my GG Grandfather, I find the day to day reports fascinating.
Homer did this for World War II from 2008-2015 and is doing it for the Civil war from 2020 to 2025.
It is a very good way to learn history in an “as it happened format and we are lucky he does it.
It is one of the highlights of this site.
So, per the Times, clearly the Rebs are not going near Pennsylvania...
I read the article to my wife. She simply pointed out hat was The NY Times, and they have been lying for almost 200 years now.
