David Byrne: The 60 Minutes Interview
(Excerpt) Read more at youtube.com ...
Who is David Byrne?
David Bryne, formerly of the Talking Heads?
I thought he was old news, someone stuck in the ambers of 1988. Maybe I’m wrong.
Such an awesome concert film! Really, one of the best!
Looks like it's getting a facelift.
It’s a great interview he really slams Biden and likes DeSantis. Just kidding.
Just another mind-numbed leftist no doubt.
One of my favorite concert movies.
I met him in 1983.
Not saying we were friends or that he’d rmembrt me. Just that I met him.
What I recall about him is being envious of his former coworkers success. To of his former musicians (David was their Boss) had a side project near the last few years of Talking Head. At one point, about 1980, they released a song.
In certain areas of the country, it became an enormously popular dance club song: “Genius of Love”.’They called their new group the Tom Tom Club.
This near-throw-away song became a much bigger hit than any of David B.’s complex songs ever did. He never called them up to share the joy of that hit. He barely ever acknowledged it at all.
But wait, there’s more!
In 1995, Mariah Carey sampled the song, weaving some of her own lyrics and harmonies around in what became called “Fantasy”. So this pair began raking in a small percent of those royalties too. It was absolutely a great song to listen to and to dance to.
Same could be said for Robert Plant who absolutely put his foot down against a Led Zeppelin reunion tour after their stellar '07 London performance, much to the dismay of the other members who wanted to keep the momentum going.
After all, Plant was busy. He had records to make with Allison Krauss.
“...I decided to watch Stop Making Sense from beginning to end. Such an awesome concert film! Really, one of the best!”
Truly it is. Maybe THE best concert film of all time. Hubby and I saw this on our first date.
The video we have is great too. It’s just the movie. No add-ons, no trailers, no ads.
It’s a bit of a tradition for us to rock out to this on New Year’s Eve!
“Genius of Love”
A great, great tune! This was the first music video I ever saw, so happy it was a great one.
They are making BANK with this old tune. It’s being sampled in some big hit song (not Mariah, it’s something newer) and it’s in some TV ad too now.
That groovy riff = $$$$$
The Tom Tom club had great dance songs. David Lynch seems like he would be utterly exhausting & not much fun to be around.
Immediately started singing all the fa, fa, fa, fahs
; )
“He had records to make with Allison Krauss.”
Sorry for being a Pollyanna on this thread, but the Robert Plant/Allison Krauss album is great too! “this is us” one of the best songs ever.
Ok, being way too upbeat, time for b.e.d.
“ Truly it is. Maybe THE best concert film of all time.”
It’s good, but it’s no Last Waltz.

>It’s good, but it’s no Last Waltz.
I’ll take The Band any day over TH
He started Overstock.com, but he also tried to help Trump during the 2020 election theft.
It really is. One if the few concert movies I ever saw in the theater, and it was well worth it.
Sure it is! But it cost the world a Led Zeppelin reunion tour (which might've been for the best).
Anyways, they were already old in '07 and now they're all 16 years older so that window has definitely closed.
