My understanding of these battery fires is they are caused when using an after-market or different charger for the battery than the one it came with.

There are standards that chargers are supposed to meet now, where they negotiate the voltage of the battery and determine state of charge.

But spontaneous combustion of smaller batteries isn't unheard of, even when they aren't connected to a charger. I remember a few years back a story of a phone igniting in someone's pocket.

But again, these stories are far more rare than those we hear about with E-bikes and cars. Remember when GM advised poeple to park their Chevy Volts (or maybe it was the Bolts) outdoors to avoid fires in the garage?

Very surprisingly the used 2012 Volt I got 18 months ago is still going strong, charges up to 35 miles every charge and no fires. It turned out to not be a bad buy for $9k.

Didn’t the Titan have battery power. If the interior got O2 saturated and the battery sparked....

Probably propane, not NG (or CNG).

Good for you!

Most say it was a decent early entry into that market. But, GM dropped it.

Personally, I think hybrids optimized for battery charging are the way to go... like diesel electric locomotives. But it is so tempting to try to boost overall performance by having the motor and the battery work on the drive train together that that isn't what's done. So, we get hybrids optimized for driving (not bad) with fairly large engines and small batteries, or BEVs with no engine at all.
