To: Pearls Before Swine
GM advised poeple to park their Chevy Volts (or maybe it was the Bolts) outdoors

Very surprisingly the used 2012 Volt I got 18 months ago is still going strong, charges up to 35 miles every charge and no fires.It turned out to not be a bad buy for $9k.

Good for you!

Most say it was a decent early entry into that market. But, GM dropped it.

Personally, I think hybrids optimized for battery charging are the way to go... like diesel electric locomotives. But it is so tempting to try to boost overall performance by having the motor and the battery work on the drive train together that that isn't what's done. So, we get hybrids optimized for driving (not bad) with fairly large engines and small batteries, or BEVs with no engine at all.
