A Texas boy has died after he was struck by lightning last month while walking home from school with his father.
Grayson Boggs’ death was the fifth lightning fatality of the year in the U.S. and the second in Texas.
Matthew Boggs, the 6-year-old’s father, was the state’s first this year. It was just after 5 p.m. May 15 in the small Central Texas town of Valley Mills when the bus arrived to drop off Grayson from kindergarten and his 11-year-old brother Elijah.

Sad. What gets me is that potentially lightning can occur a lot more easily and often than we think conditions would support it.
All it takes is air movement.
So tragic.
5 pm for drop-off from kindergarten? Must’ve lived way out in the boonies. Prayers for the overwhelmed loved ones.
A loving father holding his son’s hand as they walked up to their home. Only for both to be taken suddenly by a lightning strike.
Heartbreaking. This is why some people struggle with faith.
I have struggled with this.....have had several deaths in the last two years among family and friends while seemingly evil people live on like lizards....
a test of faith....
They edited out the best parts of this story. I was working in a weather tracking center (time/temperature/weather for banks) when this story came in on the National Weather Service Teletypewriter. The TTY report indicated that these lawyers were talking about their lack of guilt feelings for getting drug dealers and rapists off with light sentences, which then turned to the notion that God was impotent. That is when the lawyer stood up on the engine and made his proclamation. The TTY report also indicated that there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
Awful. RIP.
If only the lightning had struck down one of the ruthless, coldhearted criminals he represented...
Incidentally, I once knew a godly woman who was nearly hit by lightning multiple times from childhood into her senior years. IIRC, she might not ever have been hit directly by the lightning, but one close call rendered her speechless and unable to move for a moment.
Oh, gosh, the story about the young father and his little boy is so heartbreaking...
