Plus-size influencer Jae-lynn Chaney rips plane seat policies after demanding other flyers pay for extra seat
NY POST ^ | June 13, 2023 | By Isabel Keane

Canadian air passenger rights advocate Gabor Lukacs told CNN he considers the practice of charging larger passengers for two seats a human rights issue.

In her petition, Chaney urged the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to mandate that all airlines create a comprehensive customer-of-size policy that “prioritizes the comfort and well-being of all passengers.”

Chaney, as well as other plus-size travelers and travel experts, are calling on airlines in the US to standardize their policies.

A plus-size travel influencer is demanding that airlines change their “discriminatory” policies that make larger flyers pay “twice for the same experience” — admitting that making such a change may make fares for everyone more expensive.

Jae-lynn Chaney, who made headlines in April after starting the Change.org petition “Demand for the FAA to Protect Plus-Sized Customers,” doubled down on being discriminated against while flying due to her size.

“People with smaller bodies get to pay one fare to get to their destination,” Chaney, who has to buy an extra seat while flying, told CNN Travel.

“We have to pay two fares, even though we’re getting the same experience. If anything, our experiences are a little bit more challenging.”

While Chaney has held firm in her demands, in April she admitted that if her petition’s demands were met, ticket prices for all customers would likely increase due to demand.

I’ve been on some puddle jumpers where they moved folks around to balance the load.

Looks like she's on oxygen. Not a surprise considering her weight.

She's going to cost the taxpayers a lot of money if she makes it to 65....for that matter she may already be costing the taxpayer money.

She will die at an early age and no one will be “influenced” by her ever again.

That's one thing I appreciated about Covid. It destroyed the "healthy at any size" myth.

I have to pay extra for shoes, socks, shirts, pants, wrist watches, hats, gloves, cars, and coats already. And the airlines will not let me sit in the aisle seats because my shoulders stick out into the aisle. I may make jokes that the average size of adult males is a childrens small, but, i have never thought anybody owed me anything. If i needed a concentrater i would not even think of flying.

That’s weird because 2 people can be the same weight and one thin and one “plus sized”.

Just saying.

My mom was 7 inches taller than me, weighed more and was thinner. I have always for in plane seats easily, but if one of was closer to “not” fitting, it would be and I weighed less than her.

So I’m not sure how good a comparison that is.
But i also don’t know how big you have to be to not fit.

If I remember correctly airline seats are based on 1950’s demographics, and are indeed too small for today’s average size passenger. That being said, most everything in aviation (getting it off the ground and keeping it there) is concerned with weight (gross amount and distribution in the aircraft). Huge individuals should expect to pay more for their weight and the space they occupy. Why should the person who has paid for a full seat be denied less than that because the behemoth next to them expects everyone else to pay for their excess?

Airlines need to stipulate that a coach ticket buys you a seat however many inches wide. 14?, 16? Whatever. If the passenger needs 28, 42, 56, they buy that many seats. I am no friend of the airlines, but there is no human civil right to be jinormous. Fat is a choice. Live with the choice.

She should be forced to pay for the third seat also. No one I know wants to sit next to the behemoth.

People with smaller bodies get to pay one fare

The issue is not body size, but booty size. If it fits it sits should be the mantra.
