My brass keys never talk back to me.
If someone knocks on my door and nobody is home.
Does anybody but the knocker hear it.

I have a smart home, and my primary means of interfacing with all the devices and automations is through Amazon Echo devices via Alexa. Sounds like this “smart” home has a retarded homeowner.

There really ought to be a lawyer out there willing to make a case of this. Another reason to avoid Amazon at any cost.

If you’re stupid enough to let Amazon listen in on your life, you get stupid prizes.

i still find this difficult to believe ... if true, amazon would be opening themselves to monumental lawsuits from people hurt precipitously stumbling around in the dark, no heat, frozen pipes, missed calls, missed appointments, you name it ... plus, it SHOULD make them lose hundreds of thousands of “smart-home/alexa” customers ...
nonetheless, it’s utterly insane to pay to have a 1984-style device spying on you 24x7x365 ...

The question we should all ask is not, “did the actions justify them shutting down his house?” Rather, the correct question is, “Should they have the ability and right to shut down his house for ANY reason?”
And the answer to that one should be a resounding “NO!”.

Agreed.
I have voice command through the remote control on 3 TVs and have never used it.
Just put up a new garage door opener that has an app......that’s just asking for trouble IMO

Everybody with a Ring doorbell or Echo or Alexa in any yof their devices, should test out the ‘theory’ that Amazon woke personnel are monitoring your speech. Not necessarily racist language, but something like “Let’s go Brandon!”. Or ‘eff’ you Biden, or ‘go woke, go broke’, or FU Amazon.

There really ought to be a lawyer out there willing to make a case of this. Another reason to avoid Amazon at any cost. I bought a Kindle, but only to read PDF files.
I refuse to activate my Kindle's WiFi, so it can't connect to Amazon. This way, Amazon can't spy on what I'm reading.
I download PDF books onto my laptop, mainly from Archive.org. Then I connect my Kindle to my laptop via a USB cable, and transfer the files.
